Lavonia's "Slingin' Dirt" posts: WOW!!!!!!!!! Now that's what I'm talkin about!!!!!!!!!!! What a great night of racing. The SLMSS race was by far the best race I have seen all season. Parker Herring looked unbeatable during the beginning laps of the race as he led the field of 18 around the speedway, however Jack Pennington did not let Herring get far out of his sights and before long was fender to fender with the gold #17. Herring would manage to hold off the #1 of Pennington for over 20 laps, maintaining at least a fender lead on Pennington. Meanwhile just behind them Brandon "Cornbread" Haley worked his way into the mix of Herring and Pennington and almost made it a three wide battle for the lead in turn two. With just a few laps left Pennington would finally make his way around Herring on the high side and quickly separate himself from the rest of the field, leaving Herring and Haley to battle it out for 2nd. Haley would repeatedly try to pull alongside the #17, but would eventually run out of laps. Jack Pennington wins at Lavonia Saturday night: http://slingin-dirt.smugmug.com/Racing/Lav-9-4-10/13646792_b3S3X#996045832_8A5Nr SLMSS 1. Jack Pennington 2. Parker Herring 3. Brandon Haley 4. David Pritchett, of Toccoa Speeway, started a thunder storm on RaceTrackForums.net "I'M SORRY THAT PAPERMAN HAS CHOSE TO QUIT POSTING FOR TOCCOA SPEEDWAY,,,HE WAS NOT FIRED !!!!! HE GOT PAID ALONG WITH EVERYONE ELSE EVERY NITE ,,HIS PAY WAS $50 ALSO HIS PARTY THAT HE BROUGHT TO THE TRACK DID NOT HAVE TO PAY ADMISSIONS AT TOCCOA SPEEDWAY... THE FIRST NITE THE RACE TRACK MADE A PROFIT PAPERMAN WANTED $100 A WEEK TO POST AND TOCCOA SPEEDWAY DOES NOT AT THIS TIME HAVE THE BUDGET FOR THAT,,,I'M SURE ALOT OF PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A JOB LIKE THAT. "TO (announcer) BILL KELLETT'S MANY FRIENDS,,,THIS WAS 1 OF THE HARDEST DECISIONS I'VE MADE AT TOCCOA SPEEDWAY,,,MICHELE ,,LEON ,,AND I TOILED OVER THIS DECISION ...TOCCOA SPEEDWAY HAD SPONSORS THAT DIDN'T GET PLUGED THE WAY WE HAD ASKED,,,TOCCOA SPEEDWAY HAD SPONSORS AT THE TRACK WANTING TO HEAR THERE BUSINESS ADVERTISED,,,BUSINESS HAD GIVE-A-WAY ITEMS THAT WAS NOT GIVEN AWAY ALONG WITH SOME FRICTION WITH 1 OF OUR SPONSORS ..." Papermen, Robert Pearson, responds (in part): "I did choose to leave the Toccoa Speedway on my own. The Toccoa Speedway management knew when they first decided to reopen the Toccoa Speedway what i normally got paid each week. I worked For prior management at the same price which was $100 a week. This was paid to me for posting, calling Drivers, Fans, RaceTeams and who ever i could convince to show up at the Toccoa Speedway. I also kept the weekly divisional points posted for the Drivers and would answer any question asked about the Toccoa Speedway or i would get them an answer." Norton, Bill Kellett, responds (in part): "This was my eighth year at Toccoa Speedway and have always did my best to represent the track both at the track and away! Those that know me can verify that! I usually read each sponsor’s info at least twice during the course of a race night! Some even more. If these sponsors didn’t hear it I’m sorry but they were mentioned. When they had items to give away I did my best to give them away. If by chance I didn’t get the items given away that night I came back the next week and made sure they were given away." On the former track website: "This Web Site and domain name is owned, registered and maintained by Rolling Thunder media (Bill Kellett) as a favor to Toccoa Speedway! Randy Morse, a Vice President for RE/MAX, passed away in his Denver, CO home on Sunday, September 5th. Morse was a very close friend to ASA President Dennis Huth. The two worked together in the creation of the NASCAR RE/MAX Challenge Series and in the beginning of the NASCAR Truck Series. Morse operated Lanier Speedway during the years that RE/MAX Chairman Dave Liniger owned it. http://www.asa-racing.com/news.aspx?Id=48230
Darrell Lanigan dominated the World of Outlaws Late Model Series Oil Region Labor Day Classic on Sunday night at Tri-City Speedway for his first victory in the LaCrosse Footwear Extreme Tough Challenge. Lanigan jumped to the lead early and held off Clint Smith, of Senoia, whose runner-up finish is also his best performance in an Extreme Tough Challenge event. Josh Richards was third with Shane Clanton, of Fayetteville, finishing fourth. “I made just one slight chassis adjustment wrong and it made me too tight across the middle (of the corners),” said Smith, whose winless streak on the WoO LMS reached 110 races since his last score, on June 17, 2008, at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway. “That’s where I was getting beat. The $5,500 outing didn’t disappoint Smith, however. It was his second runner-up finish in the last four WoO LMS events, pointing to an upswing in his program. “We’re tickled to death with the way we’re running,” said Smith. 2010 World of Outlaws Late Model Series Point Standings as of Sept. 5 – 40 A-Mains completed (rank/driver/points/deficit to leader): 1. Josh Richards 5352 2. Darrell Lanigan 5350 (-2) 3. Tim McCreadie 5266 (-86) 4. Steve Francis 5138 (-214) 5. Shane Clanton 5058 (-294) 6. Rick Eckert 5042 (-310) 7. Austin Hubbard 4984 (-368) 8. Chase Elliott won the PASS South Labor Day Classic 200 at North Wilkesboro Speedway - the first major racing event at the facility since Jeff Gordon won in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series back in 1996. “This is pretty cool,” said Elliott in victory lane. “For them (his father’s NASCAR race team) to not get a win here was big because they dominated back in those years. It is really cool to be a part of the names that won here.” Justin Wakefield, of Woodstock, a regular on the PASS South tour, finished 20th. www.proallstarsseries.com.

As per the norm for the past 3 years, SPRINT-CAR MANIA broughtout the largest crowd of the season to the BOYD's SPEEDWAY Friday night. With over 40 Sprint-Car teams on the grounds, the U.S.C.S and the GEORGIA OUTLAW MINI SPRINTS took to the track in force as drivers from 8 states battled it out for the top prize. From wreckers to checkers both series saw witness to late race red flag cautions. In the U.S.C.S 30-lap GOODYEAR TIRE feature race, it would be Matt Linder smacking the turn 2 wall and flipping violently with 3 laps remaining. While in the 20-lap MINI SPRINTS feature, leader Jim Wall crashed and flipped on the front-straightaway coming to the White Flag. Former USCS series Champion Marshall Skinner, from West Memphis, AR, passed team-mate Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas on lap 24 to capture his fifth USCS main event of the 2010 season.
Young gun Danny Martin Jr., from Sarasota, FL, passed defending series Champion Terry Gray on lap 24 of the 30-lap USCS main event for the lead at Lavonia Speedway on Saturday night to capture his first USCS main event of the 2010 season. It was Martin's 19th career USCS victory. Defending series Champion Terry Gray, who started on the K&N Filters Pole Position, came home in the runner-up spot. Gray led the first twenty -three laps of the main event. C.J. Miller charged home in third place followed by the May 15th Lavonia Speedway feature winner, Matt Linder from Hoschton, GA, in the fourth position.
Keith Waltz reports in NSSN: In 1960, a gallon of gas cost 26 cents, and a new car about $2,610. AJ Foyt won the Hoosier Hundred, a prestigious dirt race, winning $10,255. Fifty years later, both gas and a car are 10 times higher. Shane Hmiel won the 2010 Hoosier Hundred, winning $255 less than Foyt won. Hmiel, banned by NASCAR for drugs, also led all 50 laps and won at Salem Speedway's sprint car show.
Indy has the Yard of Bricks, and New Hampshire is getting a Granite Stripe for a finish line. You can expect a contest soon from Ed Clark and Atlanta Motor Speedway for a new AMS stripe with a Georgia theme.

Dale McDowell, of Chickamauga, GA claimed the $20,000 victory in the Pepsi 75 River Days Rumble on Saturday Night at Portsmouth (OH) Raceway Park. McDowell inherited the lead when Eric Wells shredded a right rear tire with seven laps to go. McDowell led the remaining laps in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event in front of a mammoth crowd. Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY, finished second, followed by 18th starting Eddie Carrier Jr. of Salt Rock, WV. Tyler Reddick, the 14-year-old sensation from Corning, CA, took the lead at the start of the race and led the first ten circuits. McDowell got around Reddick for the lead on lap eleven. It was McDowell's second LOLMDS win in the last three events. The win also marked his fifth career series victory. Completing the top ten were Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC; Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN; John Blankenship of Williamson, WV; Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; and Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN. www.lucasdirt.com
Larry Harrod, of Plains, GA, won the NOS Energy Drink 75 for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park driving the Harrod Logging Scorpion. “The Big Tree” held off challenges from several drivers in a three-wide battle for the lead in lapped traffic to post his second win of the season. In addition to taking the $5,000 top prize to the bank, Harrod also takes over the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year point lead and the fourth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings. VP Racing Fuels will pay the top Rookie driver in the National points chase $5,000 at the end of the season. Harrod was also the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Race. “When we were in lapped traffic, I knew everyone was coming and I gave up the lead for a lap before I could find my line to get the lead back,” Harrod said. “The last time we were here in June we learned a lot that we put to use this weekend, and it worked. The first part of the race, my car worked so well I never lifted off the throttle.” The biggest incident of the race occurred on lap 63 when Chip Brindle, of Chatsworth, cut down a tire and spun in turn two collecting several other cars. Brindle’s car was hit several times and it took two wreckers to get it back to the pit area. That earned Brindle the Dominator Race Products Hard Luck Award after running in the top ten all night up to that misfortune.
