Mike Head, of Ellenwood, will be inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in Union, KY, Saturday. He's part of a class which includes Freddie Smith, known as the ‘Southern Gentleman’.
Also selected as Contributors is the Thomas Family of Phoenix City, AL. Father and patriarch Jimmy Thomas, along with his wife Shirley and children Billy, Bobby, Ben and Bevy, were instrumental in the business areas of car and chassis building, car owning and sponsoring, driving, and promoting the very successful East Alabama Speedway in Phoenix City.
With over 650 feature wins, Mike Head is a legend in southern dirt racing. He’s won many big races including the 1982 Dixie 100, the North-South 100 in 1990, the 1991 Northern All-Star Florida Speedweek Championship, and the 1991 Southern All-Stars Series Championship.

Gresham Motorsports Park has extended its 'Two Hot Nights - One Big Discount' ticket promotion through this Saturday. Fans can buy adult tickets to Saturday's GMP Pro Late Model program and to the August 28 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event for just $30.
This Saturday's GMP racing event features a Pro Late Models 100-lap headliner along with feature races in the Outlaw Late Model, Truck, Renegade, and Mini-Stock divisions. Drivers in all divisions will be signing autographs for the fans beginning at 6:30 pm, and the Jefferson High School Marching Band will provide musical entertainment.
The winner of the 100-lap main event Saturday evening will be automatically guaranteed a spot in the Pro Late Model portion of the three-day, 27th-Annual World Crown classic Nov. 12-14. Earlier this season, Chase Elliott and David Odell raced their way into the 'Crown' with 100-lap Pro Late Model victories on April 17 and May 15 respectively.

Andrew Smith, of Pooler, and the #37 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East team of Spraker Racing have parted ways effective immediately. A press release stated that the team made the change to prepare for the 2011 season and that they are testing drivers to determine who would best serve the team for the remainder of this season and beyond.
After winning the 2009 Humpy's Heros driver development program, Smith began his rookie season with an encouraging second place finish at Greenville-Pickens in his NASCAR debut. The excitement was short-lived as a post-race penalty relegated him to last place and cost him his crew chief for two races. The downhill slide continued from there.
“We sure didn’t expect our year to go this way”, said a disappointed Smith.
The team intends to once again compete in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series in the 2011 season and feels like this setback may be an opportunity for greater things.
“We’re looking at our options and this gives us the opportunity for a fresh start. But whatever we do, we want to be prepared when we get to the track”, commented Smith. “If we can get that, then we feel like we have the ability to compete for wins in this series.”
ASR spokesman Bradd Craft added, “We felt that it was in Andrew’s and our sponsor’s best interest to refocus our resources toward building for next year rather than continue to struggle each week with nothing to gain. Going forward, we wish nothing but the best for Spraker Racing.”

Thoughts from the dr.
drflavio309 | August 9, 2010 http://wp.me/pnL8f-bn
How many of you who have bitched about a certain driver or person has ever taken the time to go meet this person? I mean there seems to be lot's of people who are hating on the drivers from TEAM17, has anyone of the ones who are bitching about TEAM17 being cheaters ever walked over to their trailer and introduced themselves? Have you ever walked up to them at the track and talked to them? Or mentioned that you think they are cheating? If not you should try it... you may be surprised in what you find. I know you will with the TEAM17 drivers, you couldn't ask for 2 nicer guys, Jeff Smith has been racing most of his life as has Randy Hill, both men have worked hard to get to where they are now, it ain't just money, it ain't just running out and buying a race car and a motor and then go out and win 15 in a row like Jeff has, nope not at all, it is hard work and long hours, and it ain't easy not at all. These men deserve all the rewards that they are getting now, the hard work is finally paying off.

Friday Night the Blizzard Series returns to 5 Flags Speedway with the running of the Miller Lite 100 for Super Late Models. Saturday Night is the Miller Lite Super Series at nearby Mobile International Speedway.
Friday Night's action will highlight a stellar field of drivers including points leader Chase Elliott. A mere 6 points separates the #9 Aaron's Dream Machine from the familiar #18 that Bubba Pollard drives for Ronnie Sanders. Pensacola's own Johanna Long currently resides third in the standings. Only 2 events remain on the 2010 Blizzard schedule.
TJ Reaid, of Acworth, will extend his duties with Kyle Busch Motorsports, effective immediately, to include the Sunoco Gulf Coast Championship Series. Reaid is hoping to enter The 43rd Annual Snowball Derby as a KBM driver. Last year Kyle Busch and Brian Ickler were the group's Derby competitors. KBM has yet to name drivers for either of their two Snowball Derby entries for this season.
Reaid has been driving a Kyle Busch Motorsports entry in Late Model events at Gresham Motorsports Park this racing season. http://www.z3sports.com

The 28th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 Presented by Lucas Oil Products will be held at Florence Speedway in Union, KY on August 12-14. The event is a crown jewel event in dirt late model racing, and it will pay $50,000 to win and $2500 to start. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will sanction the event again in 2010. Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, WI is the defending race winner; he managed a last-lap pass on Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN to win last year's edition of the race.
Before the racing action begins on Saturday Night, the 10th Annual National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Ceremonies will be held at 6 PM.
The race will be air live via www.lucasdirt.com at 8 PM on Saturday Night. www.florencespeedway.com www.lucasdirt.com

Atlanta Motor Speedway wants to give a lucky fan the chance to win an “all access” experience at the Emory Healthcare 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series night race on Sunday night, Sept. 5.
The “All Access at AMS” contest will give fans the chance to win exclusive access for the Emory Healthcare 500, including: two suite tickets; NASCAR garage access; Victory Lane access; NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers meeting entrance; and two Pre-Race Party Passes, giving the winning fan stagefront access for a pre-race Foreigner concert and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver introductions. Register online at www.atlanamotorspeedway.com/50. One fan will be randomly selected as the winner on Friday, Aug. 20.

The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South super late models got back on track Saturday night at Newport (TN) Speedway and Ryan Blaney picked up where he left off in July, earning his third win of 2010 in the third annual Daniel Boone Classic. Justin Wakefield, of Woodstock, was third.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region point leader Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL had a big Friday, as the 17-year-old driver began his Senior year of High School during the day, and then drove his Edge’s Gas Company Mastersbilt to his fourth win of the season during the evening at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL. He has four wins, 24 top five finishes and 25 top ten finishes in 26 NeSmith Series starts.
Matthew Turner, of Dawsonville, has been declared the winner of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring event on July 31 at Greenville (MS) Speedway. The right-rear tire of apparent winner Jason Hiett, of Lincoln, AL, was found to be chemically enhanced by an independent laboratory. The victory is the second career win for Turner, and both victories have come at Greenville Speedway. www.nesmithracing.com

"I would like to apologize in advance to the race fans at Greenville Pickens Speedway for my future behavior of using the restroom out among the park cars in the parking lot. I much prefer standing behind one of these cars than to enter the filthy restrooms at GPS. Of course, I'll not be able to wash my hands but since I have never been in the GPS restroom when it had soap or anything to dry your hands with, I see no big difference. So don't be shocked to find me tinkling on your tires." - posted on http://www.racetrackforums.net/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=904

Charlotte driver Rick Goss blasted around Tri-County Race Track Saturday night on the way to victory over Atlanta’s Matt McCulough, with Werner, Jim Wall, and Sam Williams in the top five. Goss came from last place in his feature to start on the front row. The 20-lap feature was run at speeds approaching 100 mile per hour and went caution free.
The Late Model Sportsman feature saw Peachtree’s Jamie Olive beat Bobby Panter through turn one to take the lead and out pace the field to take his second feature in a row as Panter, Danny Ledford, Preston Crisp and Doug Sneed rounded out the top five spots.

Speedway Motorsports Inc. president Marcus Smith came to Atlanta Motor Speedway's staff meeting last Thursday to confirm the expected news that the track's March NASCAR date was moving - and probably to SMI's Kentucky Speedway. The full 2011 NASCAR schedule comes out in a few weeks.
"Attendance (at AMS) has taken a big slide at its Sprint Cup races in recent years, as it has at other tracks," reports the Wall Street Journal. "The race at Atlanta on Mar. 18, 2007, drew an estimated crowd of 105,000 ... 94,400 last year, and 85,000 this year" according to figures released by NASCAR.
The Kentucky track will be expanded to 100,000 seats in 2011.
Speedway Motorsports Inc. has announced a dividend for their second quarter of ten cents per share. Shares sold for about $13 Aug. 11.

The Alabama-based Southern Superstars asphalt late model series will race on Atlanta Motor Speedway's infield quarter-mile Friday, Sept. 3.
Brad Lemley not only won his first Southern Superstars 50-lapper Saturday night at Huntsville Speedway, he also won a lot of respect from his fellow drivers. Lemley dominated the second of two 50-lap Late Model features, but his second place finish in the first race drew as much attention as his win.
In the first 50-lapper, Jeff Letson continued his winning ways, giving him three straight wins on the circuit. Letson led every lap, but he had to put up with Lemley the entire race. Glued to his bumper, Lemley had several chances to take the Harvest driver out, but the Huntsville driver drove Letson clean.
"I hope I gained a lot of respect tonight," Lemley said after his victory. "I just wanted to gain a little respect from Jeff because he would have drove me the same way."
Letson's run of good luck ran out in the second feature when he elected to start on the rear for a $500 bonus. After several caution flags, Letson go caught up in an accident at the rear of the field, taking him out of the race.

Scott Bloomquist fought through all obstacles to win a record-tying fifth USA Nationals trophy on Saturday night at Cedar Lake Speedway. Jonathan Davenport, of Blairsville, Ga., who started 16th, finished fourth in the Barry Wright house car.
