Talladega Short Track officials have posted $9700 to win the 97 lap “Red Farmer Classic” this weekend at the 1/3 mile clay oval. Red Farmer is the last member of the original Alabama Gang still racing, and he's at TST most Saturday nights, racing his late model #97F.
Schaffer Oil will sponsor the “Schaffer Oil Quick Time” award of $97, and the Half-Way leader award which will also be $97, and award a free case of Racing Oil to all feature winners Saturday.
One lucky Super Late Model driver will win a contingency package with a value of $970. All twenty-five drivers in the Super Late Model feature will be eligible to win it. All names will be thrown into a hat, and one lucky fan will draw out a name, and that driver wins the contingency package. Certificates from many different racing companys will make-up the value.
All twenty-five drivers will throw a Frisbee into the stands before the start of the Super Late Model feature. The fan that catches the Frisbee of the eventual winner will win $97.
Hambones BBQ will be hosting a “Race Party” with BBQ and music entertainment in the backside grandstand area, immediately following the final race Friday.
Fans can eat dinner with Farmer Saturday, at the Hambones Tent Area on the backstretch 4:30PM until 5PM.
Pre-Race ceremonies begin at 5:30PM, where TST will honor Red for his countless endeavors he has accomplished, and the mark he has left on the sport of auto racing.

David Pritchett is the New Promoter of The Toccoa Speedway. He is a former Promoter at the Toccoa Speedway and during his time of Promotion did an excellent job in keeping the Toccoa Speedway operating at it's fullest potential.
"I am definitely looking forward to working with all the Toccoa Speedway Fans, Drivers, and Race Teams to once again make the Toccoa Speedway the number 0ne Dirt Racing Facility in North East Georgia. We have a lot to do and a short time to do it before our re-opening on Saturday May 22. We will be running a full Race Program including the Fan Favorite Super Latemodels on opening night," says Pritchett. "We are trying to make our Race Program more affordable for both Fans an Race Teams. We will be doing this with our new General Admission prices....Adult Pit Admission will be $20....Adult Grandstand Admission will be $10.....Senior Citizens (Grandstands only..age 65 and over) will be $5....Kids ages 6 to 12 will be $1.......Children ages 5 and under will be Free. During Special Events, Admission Prices may increase slightly."

Ray Cook has arguably been one of the hottest drivers in the southeast over the last 18 months, following the Lucas Oil LM Series, but he hadn't won a Southern All Stars race since 2008. He won the crate race, and finished second in the super LM race, at Boyd's Friday night, and never let up at North Georgia's SAS show Saturday.
He was fast qualifier (13.442), and led all 50 laps, winning $5000. He was constantly challenged, first by Ronnie Johnson, who left with a broken axle. Soon Skip Arp and Randy Weaver were on his tail, and even a 360-degree spin on the frontstretch by Weaver didn't spread the chasers.
Weaver finished second ahead of Arp. Weaver was visibly disappointed in his post race interview. “You know I was really wanting to win that race. My good friend Calvin Cheek passed away earlier this week and I really wanted to win that one for him. I probably tried a little too hard. We had a tough weekend. We hurt a motor at Waycross last night. We drove all night to get home and change it so we could make it here. So its been tough. Congratulations to Ray and his team and thanks to Junior and Josh and all my guys. We’ll settle for second and go get ‘em next time.”
“I am just so blessed to have Danny Dishman and Ron Ivey and all of the guys that help us with this race team. It’s always good to get a win closer to home.” Cook said after the race.

"Mr. Millwood and Mr. Peters deserve a big "atta-boy" for the job they have done at North Georgia Speedway," says Late Model Mark at http://www.latemodelracer.com
The North GA Doctor (Mitch Walker) discusses the show: "The call in Crate's.. well this is the one that seems to get the most attention, the 38 was called for making contact with the A-1 of Kizzar (wonder if he still has that “questionable” Engine?) which he did, regardless of what the A-1 done, the 38 made contact, and made it from the rear, causing the A-1 to spin, the 38 of Chip Brindle was asked 3 times on the radio to go to the rear, which he refused to do, and the whole thing blew up, with Chip driving around refusing to go to the pits, this is just not right, yeah he was mad, and yeah he was really pissed off, but his actions were not a true reflection of the driver Chip Brindle who I know is a great guy and a really mild mannered young man, but his actions really made him look bad, so in my book it was the right call, and that is why he will not be joining us for the next couple weeks. And Chip if your reading this, I think it would be a good idea for you to stand up and admit you were wrong and tell your fans” I am sorry not for punting the A-1 but for your actions after the fact”, if you need a place to do it get in touch with me we can work it out." http://topofthebox.wordpress.com/2010/05/12/mid-week-ramblings-or-rumblings-3/

Shane Clanton, 34, of Locust Grove, ended his 13-month winless drought on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series in the most dramatic way possible. Taking advantage of a problem in lapped traffic that Josh Richards experienced on the final lap, Clanton jumped to the outside racing off turn four and beat the defending tour champion to the finish line by mere inches to capture Friday night's caution-free 'Land of Lincoln 50' at Lincoln Speedway.
"I'd rather be lucky than good any time," said Clanton, who snapped a 44-race winless streak with his 12th career victory on the WoO LMS. "We needed a win bad, so we'll take it any way we can get it."

Unfortunately the A-Hobby and FWD divisions didn't get to race, due to time restraints (curfew), so those two divisions will run for double purse, this Friday night.

Promotion idea: One of the other "fun" events that we want to try at Monroe (LA) Motor Speedway is Skid Car racing! Any front wheel drive car...the bigger the better....all you have to do is weld skids...that we have here....on to some steel wheels, pull the hand brake and let the sparks fly!!!

Q: All joking about John Wes Townley aside (Mirror Driving specializes in it), what is his status in Childress’ Nationwide car? He brought the sponsorship, so how is his daddy standing by and allowing Bowyer to race the car? And is this permanent, or is Townley doing some racing in Camping World East series or anything? Thanks!
- Jeannette, Clearwater, Florida
A: Clint Bowyer said after Talladega that he hoped to race in at least seven more races in the No. 21 car. Casey Mears is driving in another two events (Nashville and Kentucky in June) while the rest of Townley’s schedule was still being determined.
He was originally expected to be back in at Phoenix, but I’ve heard that the 20-year-old just doesn’t want to race anymore. Right now, it’s not looking good for “Chicken Man.” (What?! I had to get at least one in!)

Future Cup Race In Kentucky In Question
With a lawsuit against ISC removed, it seems the opening is there for Kentucky to earn itself a 2011 Sprint Cup date. However, in a conference call with financial analysts Wednesday, SMI chief financial officer Bill Brooks said it’s far from a done deal.
Claiming the facility is in need of upgrading, Brooks noted capital expenditure costs and the need to increase seating before applying for a Cup event. Currently, the venue has 69,000 seats, 6,000 more than Darlington but over 30,000 less than each of the two tracks in line to possibly lose a date by its promotion to Cup: Atlanta and New Hampshire.
No comment has come from NASCAR yet on possible realignment for 2011. The schedule is typically not finalized until late August or early September. www.Frontstretch.com

Jimmy Owens joined the ever-growing list of 2010 World of Outlaws Late Model Series winners on Saturday night, rolling to victory in the 50-lap 'My Old Kentucky Home Shootout' at Bluegrass Speedway.
Owens, 38, of Newport, Tenn., grabbed the lead from Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., on lap two and never looked back in the national tour's inaugural visit to the high-banked, half-mile oval. He survived a stern mid-race challenge from another Kentuckian, Darrell Lanigan of Union, to become the 11th different victor in 12 WoO LMS events this season. It was the third career triumph on the WoO LMS for Owens.

One reason race teams like the Champion Racing Association shows is the Cash Bonuses and Contingency Awards. At last week's Berlin (MI) show, teams split $5,060, in addition to the purse payout. Even one non-qualifier took home a $50 contingency.

Chris Economaki reports in NSSN that the best paying weekly show is the 410 sprint cars at Knoxville (IA). Every feature pays $3000 to win, and $600 to start.

Promotion idea: A pair of Figure 8 Train races are scheduled for this month; this Saturday, May 15 at Flat Rock and Friday, May 28 at Toledo. Train racing features a pair of 4 cylinder cars chained together; the front car has the engine, the back car has the brakes! The race pays $750 to win and pays back to 10th spot at $100. Last season a total of ten train teams showed for the final events, prompting track officials to schedule 7 of these events between the 2 tracks for 2010. Two school buses are still available for sponsorship at each track. The package includes 20 tickets, listing in souvenir program, public address announcements, painting of your bus (with your paint) and more fun than you can take for just $600 per bus! www.toledospeedway.com www.flatrockspeedway.com

Scott Bloomquist took the lead from Billy Moyer on lap six, and won the $10,000 payday at the Waycross unsanctioned Battle of the Swamp. Following him were Jonathan Davenport, of Blairsville, and Chris Madden. 22 cars entered.
Mark Whitener won the $3000 to win limited LM division.
Waycross hosts the National LM Series July 17 and the United Dirt LM Series Aug. 7. Both pay $3000 to win. http://www.dirtondirt.com

Jake Knowles won Saturday in super late models at Cleveland, driving a car sponsored by Cleveland track owner Monty Morrow, who had been the crew chief for his father, Wade Knowles, at one time.
Knowles has become one of Georgia's top young drivers, but got started in a unique way - driving with his father in Dixie's cruiser division (one man steers and brakes, one man on the gas pedal). They won three times, and finished second in points, in 2001.
In the Sportsman Div. in 2003, Knowles won track championships at Dixie and Rome, and the Alabama State Championship. He won the Dixie and Rome Championships again in 2004 in Limited LMs with eight wins.
He opened the 2005 season with a win at Dixie, and then car owner Mike Stewart put him in a crate LM and took a $2000 to win show at Eldora, leading every lap. Two weeks later, in Stewart's super LM, he won $5000 at North Georgia on Saturday, and a $5000 to win show at Rome on Sunday. He got two more super LM wins later in the season.
2006 started with a $10,000 crate win at East Alabama. 2007 brought the Top Tracks (crate) Challenge Series title, and a fourth in Southern All Stars points. 2008 included three super wins, including the Rome Boss title.
His signature win to date is a $10,000 win at Cleveland in the 2009 Lucas Oil touring series show, holding off Scott Bloomquist and the Lucas stars. He also won the SRRS $3000 race at Cleveland, and four other features.
He started 2010 racing in South Africa, winning two of three A-mains, in a trip arranged by his engine builder, Ronnie Willkomm of Race Engine Design in Rossville. (Info from Dirt Late Moddel Magazine 5/10 www.threewidemedia.com) http://www.jakeknowles.com/

Fan report: "Great show at North Ga.! Track was slower than it has been lately & got a little dusty but the racing was worth it. Cook did lead all 50 laps but had his hands full with Weaver who came from 10th & Arp who spun on the initial start then slipped high & fell back to 5th or 6th at one point. Johnson was also very strong early but fell out. Arp, Weaver & Cook were 3 wide for the lead at one point & Weaver actually nosed ahead coming out of turn 4 on the last lap but Cooks high line got him across the line 1st. Trig Parris passed Devin Dilbeck for the win in limited. Chuck Padgett won crate-which had a little drama after an incident with Chip Brindle spinning a car battling for 2nd. Good nite of racing!" - Forddirt on 4m.net
Fan report: "Congrats to Ray on the win! I don't know who made the calls in the A-hobby and Crate races, but they were horrible. Most fans were upset as the track announcer can verify that. If you are gona protect your lead car with calls like that, (A-Hobby), then maybe they should just draw numbers out of a hat instead of racing to see who wins. The call in the crate feature was also a bone-headed call. The racing was decent even though it was dry and a bit rough in 3 and 4. Overall I would give the program a B+, despite the terrible calls in 2 features." - Dirtfuse14 on 4m.net

Racing returns to Tri-County this Friday night with go karts and Saturday with six classes on the schedule.
One of the best races last Saturday saw 13 cars entered in the Cornwell Tools Modified Street feature with Toccoa driver Nick Sellers edging out Heather Taylor for the action packed win.
Hayesville’s Charlie Parker won the Late Model feature over a hard charging Jamie Oliver.
