Boyd's Speedway Results 4-23-2010
Boyd's Speedway Results 4-23-2010
Well with heavy rains forcasted throughout the area for this weekend a large crowd came to BOYD'S SPEEDWAY to get their weekly fix of the smell of racing fuel, mud sligging side by side racing. And believe me they were not disappointed. The evening started with the twin HEATS of the B-HOBBY class. In the first Bill King ( in the familiar # 14 of Lee Hogan ) would lead Daniel Johnston and Mike Chapman to the checkered flag. In the second Reagan Williams would battle Brandon Francis and Bill Pate for his victory. It was now time for the CRATE LATE MODELS to take to the track in the first of two HEATS. Last weeks hard charger Robby Mason driving his #72 started last and finished second was determined to start closer to the front this week. Starting from the pole in his respective heat he left no questions to where he would start this week. Mason would lead Craig Burrows and Jerry Coffman to the checkered. Last week Kenny Kizzar would start up front only to see the undefeated Rex Richey take the win. But this week Mr. Kizzar had done his homework and would not be denied his heat victory. He was followed by Bobby Mayse and Jason McMahan. The A HOBBY class was now up for the first of their two heats. Patrick Wilson would continue where he left off last week passing Corey Cresswell and Jeff McKinze for the win. In Heat #2 Gene Dover (subing for Garry Johnson in the black # 3) would lead Steve Tate and Booger Brooks to the finish. As the clouds began to roll in the STEEL HEADED LATE MODELS rolled to the track for the first of two HEATS. David Doss making his first appearence at Boyd's Speedway this year would start from the pole position, but would only be good enough for second as the B5 of Todd Hernadez would take the win while Rusty Vallenger would finish third. In HEAT #2 another first timer Mike Lewelling driving the #22L would start from the pole and lead the hard charging #16 of Rick Hixson ( who started from the back) to the checkered flag. Hixson was followed by Tunnel Hills, Davey Davis. The last of the heats would bring out the FWD's Tommy Hughes would finish in front of Derrick Forgey and Matt Patton. In the final heat race of the evening Micheal Arp beat Brad Cross and Mark Arp to the line.
In the nights first FEATURE the B-HOBBY class would prepare for the 15 lap duel for the money. With King and Williams leading the field to the green the caution would fly early. Williams would be out before the race really got going. The lead would be taken over by the #8 of Brandon Francis followed by Mike Chapman. A late entry into the field was making his way to the front the #1 driven by Mr. HUghes was on the move. By lap 6 he had taken the lead and went on to cross the line first. But as he crossed the scales he was determined to be light and was DQ'd which gave the victory to Mike Chapman (First Victory of the Year). He was followed by Bill King, Daniel Johnston,Alvin Sewell and Tim Totherow (making his first appearance of the year). The CRATE LATE MODELS were called to the front straightaway for their 20 lap feature. With every race this year being won by the # 16 of Rex Richey would this be the night for a first time winner. Robby Mason and Kenny Kizzar would lead the full field to the green. Mason would take the early lead followed by Kizzar. The caution would fly on lap 8 for the spin of the #87 of Kevin Gibson. As Mason continued to lead under green the racing was heating up back through the field. At one time Mayse, Coffman, Richey and Burrows would make it four wide down the back stretch all fighting for the same position. The fans were brought to their feet as Coffman would lead the group but could only follow the #72 of Mason to the checkered flag. Robby Mason had gained his FIRST VICTORY OF THE YEAR followed by Jerry Coffman, Rex Richey, Craig Burrows and Bobby Mayse. A-HOBBY was up next, would the Brooks be victorious again was the question. With Patrick Wilson starting up front could he continue his winning streak from last week. On lap three he was out handing the lead to #3 of Gene Dover he would never look back and take his FIRST VICTORY OF THE YEAR followed by Steve Tate, Corey Cresswell, Booger Brooks and Jeff Paige. In the STEEL HEADED LATE MODEL would this be the night for another first time winner. Todd Hernadez would lead the full field to the green. Outside pole of # 22L Mike Lewelling taking the early lead. Lewelling took the high side to his liking while Mr. Hernadez began to inch his way on the bottom. For several laps running side by side Hernadez took the lead. As Hernadez seemed to gain more distance lap by lap the racing behind him continued to heat up. The veteran racer of #16 Rick Hixson was coming and coming hard. But before he could get to Hernadez he was being battled by the 17M of Andy Miller. With a late caution to close the field up for the restart could Hixson take advantage of the opportunity. Not on this night as Todd Hernadez would also Win FOR THE FIRST TIME. This would be Todd's first victory after moving from the A-HOBBY division he had dominated for several years. Following Todd would be Rick Hixson, Andy Miller, Jeff Smith and Jason Welsham. The last race of the evening would roll into position. The FWD early leader would be the T9 of Tommy Hughes, he would lead until lap #10 when he began to slow for a overheating problem. This would hand the lead over to Derrick Forgey, but the battle wasn't over. He was dogged high then low by the cars driven by Micheal Arp and Brad Cross. But he held on to take the victory over Arp, Cross, Matt Patton and Mark Arp. What a job the track had done to fully complete the entire racing program by 10:15 only to see the rain drops begin.
