Clay Rogers dominated the Racing Electronics USARacing Pro Cup 250 Presented By Live Oak Plantation at Gresham Motorsports Park Mar. 27y. For Rogers, who won the last USAR race at the track in 2007 when it was still Peach State Speedway, it was business as usual. “Even though it’s a different track, it still drives a lot like the old Peach State – just with new a Gresham wrapper on it,” said Rogers in Victory Lane after beating Benny Gordon to the line by 0.470-second margin. “This track has a lot more grip than the old one, but you still have to drive it the same. I’ve been with two different teams since I last won here, but it still feels just as good to win this time as it did the last.” Rogers started 10th on the grid after Caleb Holman won the pole with a new track record for the USAR division with a 17.770 second lap in qualifying. The only Georgian in the race, Bill Plemons, Jr, finished 16th. http://greshammotorsportspark.com More at http://www.georgiastockcarracing.com

A BAD YEAR FOR YOUNG RACERS The outlook for Travis Pennington, age 19, is 12 months or more in state prison before his appeal can even be considered. He was convicted in Douglas County in March of statutory rape. His lawyer thinks there are good grounds for a successful appeal, and a new trial. Travis was a winner in dirt late model racing, and probably the best young dirt prospect in Georgia. Georgia's best young asphalt racer, Matt Hawkins, age 21, died in a shooting accident Feb. 14, 2009. Matt's resume included wins in his first starts in both ARCA and Hooter's Pro Cup. http://www.matthawkins.net/ Another fine young asphalt driver, Beau Slocumb. age 25, lost nearly a whole racing season in 2009, while getting cancer treatment in Texas. He returned with a fifth place finish in the ARVA 150 at Kansas last Sept. http://www.beauslocumb.com/Beau_Slocumb/Beau.html

He only made three starts last season to maintain his Sunoco Rookie of the Year eligibility for 2010. "It's been a great day here," Gresham said. Bubba Pollard, of Senoia, took the lead away from fellow Georgian Chase Elliott with two laps to go in the opening round of the 2010 Blizzard Super Late Model Series at Five Flags Speedway (FL). For Pollard, it was his third-career win in the Blizzard Super Late Model Series. Pollard took the Ronnie Sanders-owned red #18 Super Late Model back to victory lane at Five Flags Speedway for the first time in eight years. Sanders, a veteran short track racer who is on the mend from a recent successful surgery to combat cancer, was the last driver to take the checkers in the car at the famed Pensacola, Florida track in the final race of the Blizzard Series season in 2002. “The biggest thing tonight is Mr. Ronnie,” said Pollard. “Without him and his crew I wouldn’t be doing all the racing that I’m doing. He’s getting himself well and I’m just doing what I can to hold up my end of this deal and keep winning races." Ryan Lawler, Casey Smith, and Jeff Fultz rounded out the top five.
