Russell Fleeman won the first Red Top Auto Auction Super Six Series Pro Late Model race at Lanier, and he's probably the favorite for 100-lap race #2 this week. Shane Sawyer, who battled Fleeman bumper to bumper and fender to fender, with multiple lead changes, is another favorite. Danica Patrick, Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon, Dario Franchitti and all of the stars of the Indy Racing League are coming to Barber Motorsports Park for the very first Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. The track, located just east of Birmingham near I-20, is 2.38 miles long with 17 turns, most of which are flowing. This is the first IRL race at the track, but sports cars reach speeds of 119 mph there. 3-day ticket = $70, Sat. $40, Sun. $50. The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, on the site, began life in 1988 as a private collection of George W. Barber, owner of Barber Dairies. Darrell Wallace Jr., age 16, made his debut in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East at Greenville Pickens Speedway a memorable one. He is the youngest driver and first African-American to win in series history. He gave Drive for Diversity its first East victory and third overall in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. Sixteen of the 30 drivers in the race are Sunoco Rookie of the Year contenders. Fellow rookie Andrew Smith finished second, followed by Jody Lavender and rookies Cole Whitt and Ryan Gifford. Defending series champion Ryan Truex started second and led 127 laps. Truex bobbled on a Lap 137 restart, and several top 10 cars were involved in the pile-up. Included were the Joe Gibbs Racing duo of Max Gresham and Brett Moffitt. Gresham had run in the top five earlier. The race was slowed 13 times for 61 laps, and included one red flag period. The results of Saturday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at Greenville (S.C.) Pickens Speedway have been revised due to a rules violations discovered during post-race inspection of the second-place car driven by Andrew Smith, of Pooler, GA. The car's front shock absorbers would not extend to the specified distance within the specified period of time per the 2010 NASCAR rule book.
