The Modoc 100 is a FASTRAK National Touring event as well as the season’s first FASTRAK Southern/Smokey Mtn/Mid East Touring Series event.
As the days counted down leading up to the 2009 FASTRAK ‘Modoc 100’, the event had clearly garnered an amount of attention an event of this magnitude would generate as demonstrated by the number of credential requests from numerous media outlets. Additionally, the number of telephone calls from race teams as well as race fans received at Modoc Speedway and the FASTRAK Racing Series national headquarters in Carnesville GA was unprecedented.
Blairsville GA’s Jonathan Davenport went on to win the Modoc 100 and picked up the $10,000 winner’s check but perhaps even more importantly, Modoc Speedway and the FASTRAK Racing Series experienced occurrences never before seen by the speedway or the series.
Seventy race teams had registered at the FASTRAK Racing Series hauler prior to the event from as far away as Missouri, Pennsylvania and New York, an occurrence normally reserved for the FASTRAK Racing Series GRAND NATIONALS or the $10,000 to win Pro Late Model Nationals held every Labor Day weekend at Fred Brown’s Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat VA
As the drop of the green flag neared, another notable occurrence was the overflow, standing room only crowd necessitating the need to delay the start of the event to allow race fans who could park no closer to the speedway than two miles away time to get settled into their seats. It was learned later that the FASTRAK ‘Modoc 100’ had attracted the largest crowd to ever witness an event in the 25 year history of Modoc Speedway.
“We’re really excited about the Modoc 100 kicking off 2010 for the FASTRAK Racing Series here at Modoc Speedway for the second year in a row” said Stewart. “Our fans are not only loyal, they’re dedicated. The level of competition associated with the FASTRAK Racing Series brand is unquestionable and the race promises to be exciting especially with switch to Hoosier tires. FASTRAK held a tire test here not that long ago, and every car participating in the tire test had surpassed the FASTRAK track record here by over a second. One thing everyone commented on during the tire testing was how much more stable the cars were in the corners. They could drive deeper into the corner and get back on the gas quicker. With all of the competitors competing with the same engines and on the same Hoosier tires, this thing is shaping up to be quite a race”.
“We’re also excited about our FASTRAK sanctioning in 2010. We have some local drivers here that can mount a serious challenge for the FASTRAK/ City Chevrolet National Weekly Championship. It’s the big prize many of them have their eye on” says Stewart.
In addition to the $10,000 to win Modoc 100 for the FASTRAK Racing Series, Stewart is kicking off Modoc Speedway’s 2010 season in a big way for Modoc Speedway support divisions. While tracks will commonly schedule a “big payday” event for each support class at some point throughout the season, Stewart has turned things up a notch with 4 support classes in action paying $1000 To Win on Opening Night. The Modoc Speedway Limited’s, Super Street’s, Stock V-8’s, Super Stock 4 and Extreme 4’s will each be in action where the winner in each class will bank $1000. Also on tap is the $300 to win Giffin Plumbing Company Powder Puff race.
Race fans will also be treated to The NLMS Super Late Models who will compete in a 50 Lap, $5000 to win event as well.
The Modoc 100 weekend will kick off on Thursday March 4 with Open Practice set to get underway at 7 pm.
On Friday FASTRAK Qualifying is on the docket followed by heat races. The Pit Area will open at Noon. The drivers meeting will be at 7 p m. The NLMS Super Late Models will qualify on Friday with heat races to follow as well. The Super Street’s, Stock V-8’s and the Super Stock 4’s will have heat races en route to their respective $1000 To Win Saturday Night Feature events.

On Saturday the FASTRAK Racing Series Last Chance Race will roll off the starting grid to complete the starting field that will make up the $10,000 To Win FASTRAK Racing Series ‘Modoc 100’. The Pit Area will again open at Noon with the Driver Meeting set for 5 p m.
