Brandon Haley of Lavonia, GA used the home-town, home-track advantage to battle FASTRAK 2008 Champ Royce Bray early and then hold off Shannon Buckingham of Morristown Tn. in the late laps at FASTRAK’s “GRAND NATIONAL” Night-1 at Lavonia Speedway Saturday night.
The very personable Haley, known as “Cornbread” since his days working with Kenny Wallace some years back, swept the weekend by setting fast time, winning his heat and then winning the 50-lap FASTRAK A-Main.
”I have so many people to thank,” said a very happy Brandon Haley from the front stretch. “My family, the crew, Horton Homes, Southland Real Estate, Real Wheels, Sunoco, K&N Air Filters, Klotz Synthetic Lubricants, Ultra Shields, I hope I didn’t miss anyone…Oh, Old Man’s Garage.”
Bearing any problems in technical inspection, Haley will become one of only 4 FASTRAK Nationwide racers to enter Night-2 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN with a maximum 35 “GRAND NATIONAL” points total as 3 other FASTRAK regions have now completed their Grand Nationals night one.
Royce Bray lost his drive shaft while leading on lap 30 and was the first person to Haley’s car when he came into Victory Lane on Lavonia’s front stretch.
Finishing behind Haley would be Buckingham, Parker, Bently and Long rounding out the top-5.
