As the rain fall amounts continued to climb to record levels one of the hardest hit areas was Toccoa and Stephens County! Toccoa Speedway suffered damage to the front straight wall and flag stand. About 60 feet of the front stretch wall including the Flagstand is lying on the front stretch. Toccoa has had about 18 inches of rain this week. Hopefully the damage can be repaired soon and racing wall resume at the track. As of now nothing is scheduled at Toccoa until October 10th!

The heavy rains have damaged the pit area and scales at Dixie. Their next show will be the Lucas Oil Touring Dirt Series Sat., Oct. 10, and 2009 track points champions will be honored. http://www.dixiespeedway.com

BOYD's SPEEDWAY in Ringgold, GA, was flooded from the rising Chickamagua Creek. The Water level was up to the high banked concrete retaining walls of the turns of the dirt track facility. The Oct. 3 Southern All Stars show at Waycross has been cancelled by the series. More details on the website.
"It is regretable that we had to cancel this event as we were really looking forward to returning to Waycross after a long absence. But it was something that was just unavoidable. There were several problematic factors involved and we feel cancelling is in the best business interest of everyone involved." said Series General Manager Kelley Carlton.
This week Waycross has Local racing in Pure Stock, Superstreet, Late Model & Limited Sportsman divs., with Double Points.

After picking up three wins in a row on the 2008 ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour series schedule, Jason Hogan, of Cleveland, who had not competed for a touring series championship since 2006, decided over the off season to once again try to add to his already impressive résumé a touring series championship. With a flourish of young talent expected to be vying for the win each week, Hogan knew that consistency would be what it took to get the job done and that held true each and every race week.
Even though Hogan was held winless in the ASA SAT '09 Tour, he was the model of consistency as he posted five top five finishes and six top ten finishes in his ten series starts. In a sport that rewards consistency, Hogan and his family owned Hogan Lumber race team played the sport just as it needed to be played and enabled himself to capture his first career touring championship. The Tour's remaining races were cancelled last week.
“It was disappointing how everything turned out because it really was a great series to race in. I know the schedule got cut short and some people might say well he won because the rest of the season got the plug pulled on it, but we raced ten races which there are plenty of series out there that race ten races in their entire season schedule. Plus if you’re a racer you show up each and every week to win the race and who ever comes closest to doing that every race is going to a points championship no matter how many races they run,” stated Hogan.
“A lot of people don’t realize that I’ve never won a touring series championship, so being crowned the 2009 ASA SAT champion is pretty special to me. My family makes this team up so I really have to thank them for everything they have put into this,” added Hogan. “Hopefully we can enjoy this championship for a little while before it gets crazy with all these end of the year shows. We may have won a championship, but I still haven’t won a race this season and I’m definitely frustrated about that, so hopefully with a little luck on our side that will change sooner rather than later.”

There aren't very many race car drivers over a season who can put themselves in a situation to possibly win four late model racing championships in one year but Bubba Pollard, of Senoia, is definitely in that situation.
Pollard has already won the 2009 Viper Series Championship at South Alabama Speedway and can win three more championships this weekend. Pollard holds a 23 point lead over Johanna Long in the Blizzard Series for Super Late Models at Five Flags Speedway. The Blizzard Series final Miller Lite 100 is Friday evening in Pensacola, Florida.
Pollard also holds a 50 point lead over Augie Grill in the Miller Lite Super Late Model Series at Mobile International Speedway. The Miller Lite Series 100 final is Saturday.
With the combination of both series, Pollard could win the Sunoco Gulf Coast Championship Series. "This is pretty amazing that we can win three more championships this season," said Pollard. "We are really focused on having great finishes in these two races and take home the championships."
Bubba Pollard was also the "Unofficial" 2009 Championship Racing Association (CRA) South Super Series Champion. CRA South suspended it's 2009 season earlier this summer.
Pollard brings a new sponsor to the race team this weekend by debuting The Thrifty Nickel of Atlanta. "We are really excited about adding Thrifty Nickel to our race team," said Pollard. "We are hoping this becomes a long term relationship." www.atlantathriftynickel.com www.5flagsspeedway.com

Atlanta Motor Speedway fans are now on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/atlmotorspeedway?v=wall
It's a great source for AMS news, and feedback from fans:
Frank Dale Gillman: "i caught swine flu from the races last weekend just wanted to give everone that was at the the track last weekend a heads up because this flu sucks"
Karen Culp: "bring back the showers out by the unreserved camp grounds"

Promoters nightmares: A slow-moving band of precipitation reached the one-third-mile oval late Saturday afternoon and radar indicated little chance of imminent clearing, forcing I-55 Raceway co-promoters Ken Schrader and Ray Marler to pull the plug on the track's 27th annual special event.
It was the 11th time that a WoO LMS event has been either canceled or postponed during the rain-plagued 2009 season.
Sunday's rainout marked the 12th weather-related cancelation or postponement during the rain-plagued 2009 WoO LMS season.

Three A-Mains remain on the 2009 WoO LMS schedule – all at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. The Topless Showdown is set for Oct. 14, followed by the World Finals on Nov. 5-7.

Sorenson Racing for FREE?
With the latest reincarnation of Richard Petty Motorsports last week, Reed Sorenson, of Peachtree City, is no longer part of their future. ESPN.com reported that when the driver was notified of his impending firing, he was given two options: race for the rest of the 2009 season for no salary OR take a buyout. Sorenson elected the first choice. Hoping to remain in the public eye long enough to garner a ride next year, the 23-year-old racer is feeling the downturn in the economy in the worst way.
NASCAR Cup Career to date: 136 starts, 0 wins, 5 Top 5s, 14 Top 10s, 25.0 average finish, 145 laps led, $16,094,353 earnings ($3,543,869 in '09)
He has three wins in the Nationwide Series ('05 - 2, '07) and has earned $3,610,933 in 99 starts. http://www.racing-reference.info/driver?...

The Dover 200 this weekend marks one year ago that John Wes Townley and RAB Racing made their NASCAR Nationwide Series debut. In just their first full year of competition, RAB Racing has accumulated one top-15, five top-20 and nine top-25 finishes.
John Wes Townley, a 19-year-old Raybestos Rookie from Watkinsville, claims Dover International Speedway as “his favorite track” on the NASCAR Nationwide Series circuit.

Tony Knowles takes his Super Late Model to the 20th Annual Magnolia State 100 at Columbus (MS) Speedway this weekend. Last year he was second in the race, which pays $20,009 to win. www.ColumbusSpeedway.net www.TonyKnowles26.com

This Saturday night, the popular Georgia Mini Sprints return to Tri-County Race Track in a rain make up date at the super-fast one third mile clay oval. A little over a month ago, 17 of the winged alcohol burning 100 mile-per-hour sprints watched rain run their night.
Racing will also include the popular Nesmith Crate Late Models, Modified Street, Street Stock and Mini Stocks. Gates will open at 4 p.m. with racing action at 7 p.m. http://www.georgiaminisprints.com

Vinnie Salerno, owner of Four Star Transmissions Motorsports, offers a reward of $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in the weekend theft of the contents of the Four Star truck and hauler.
The theft, which took place from the parking lot of the Motel Blanchette at 225 Blvd. St. Joseph West, Drummondville, Quebec, Canada, included the following items:
·complete big block Modified car
·complete small block Modified car
·60 Keizer wheels mounted with Hoosier tires
and lots more. Call Vinnie Salerno at 845-786-2200

The Whelen All-American Series national championship was settled a little differently this season. Phillip Morris came into the last race with a comfortable lead this year, and a second place finish was more than enough to wrap up yet another NASCAR title. Morris’ title at Motor Mile was his fifth straight and the seventh of his career, an accomplishment that may be even more impressive than his third National title in four years. Motor Mile is considered by many to be the most competitive local track in the country, with 25+ car fields made up of track champions from all over the Southeastern United States. Winning one track championship at Motor Mile can make a career for a driver... but doing it seven times is unparalleled.
Next up for Morris is the Bailey’s 300 at Martinsville Speedway on October 4th. the biggest Late Model race east of the Mississippi that will see in the neighborhood of 120 race cars try and make the race. That one pays $10,000 to win and awards a grandfather clock to the winner just like the Cup Series does for their races. By Mike Neff - FRONTSTRETCH LIVE

Lavonia's Georgia State Championships show, with the Southern All Stars, has been rescheduled Oct. 16-17. www.lavoniadirttrack.com http://www.southern-allstars.com/osas/schedule.htm

Rookie Casey Roderick, of Lawrenceville, in a Dodge, was fifth fastest overall in open ARCA testing at Rockingham Sept. 23. Pensacola's Johanna Long was eighth, and David Ragan driver Chris Buescher was 12th.
Buescher won the ARCA pole at Salem last week, but fell out with battery problems.

"RAMBO" Dennis Franklin won the Carolina Clash super LM show at the Wytheville Raceway on Saturday, with Jonathan Davenport, of Blairsville, second.

Youngsters Try to Dethrone Champ to No Avail
By Elgin Traylor, Speed51.com
Shane Sawyer has been racing for nearly 20 years and perhaps this has been his best season to date. Already having won the Pro Late Model track championship at Lanier National Speedway, Sawyer came into the James Garrison Memorial 100 hopping for another victory. To no surprise, he held off a pair of teenagers, Casey Roderick and Chase Elliott, for yet another 100-lap victory at Lanier.
“We have had a really dominant car here at Lanier,” said Sawyer. “We have been fortunate enough to win a lot of races here this year. I wasn’t around when James (Garrison) was alive, but his wife, his daughter, his son and his family are all good people. I have proud to win a race in his honor.”
For Sawyer, it wasn’t the only Memorial race he won this season. He also captured the Matt Hawkins Memorial 100 back in April at Lanier. He also scored wins in the Ice Cold Shriners Bowl 100 and in a 100 lap event with the Georgia Asphalt Series.
Sawyer led the most laps and took the lead for good on lap 37 from 17-year-old Casey Roderick who had put up a good fight in the opening laps of the race. “We couldn’t get back into the gas tonight,” said Roderick. “Sawyer could roll through the center a lot better then we could. We have been really good for the last three weeks so it’s about time we ended up being a bit off.”
As Sawyer checked out, Roderick was left to battle with teammate and Late Model Rookie sensation 13-year-old Chase Elliott. The two drivers went door-to-door for several laps. Roderick would end up second and Elliott had to settle for third. Paul Kelley and Jeff Choquette rounded out the top five.
“We got real tight there in the middle part of the race and there is not too much you can do to fix that here at Lanier,” said Elliott. “I could have gotten into him and got the spot, but teammates running second and third there is no reason for that. It was a good night, and we look forward to coming back next year.” http://www.speed51.com/

Trackchaser notes: Allan Brown has been entering into a database the information of all the races, not just new tracks, that he has attended since the mid 1950's. He has been to approximately 3,100 race events, and has been to Berlin, MI, 408 times! Pretty incredible given that he has also been to more than 1000 tracks besides Berlin. Another amazing stat from Allan is that he has seen Steve Kinser win 79 times at 47 different tracks. - from Guy Smith, Lifetime Total Tracks--1,237

Promotion idea: Montana Raceway Park, in Kalispell, Mont., has an offer that is hard to beat this week. Admission is free for Fan Appreciation / Back to School night Saturday. The high-banked oval hosts a full slate of race action at a price that is hard to beat.
We like the track's website:

GA Racing history: September 2 marked the 63rd anniversary of one of the most significant events in Georgia Racing History.
On that date back in 1946, defending Indy 500 winner George Robson and cagey Indy car veteran George Barringer were tragically lost in a four car accident during a AAA Indy car event at Lakewood Speedway.
In honor of Robson and Barringer, we have two important items now up at Georgia Racing History.com
First is Mike Bell's phenomenal 2005 story profiling Texas racer George Barringer, and the accident that took his life. Mike's story includes photos from the Barringer family, and excerpts from a radio interview Barringer did in 1941.
Second is a story I've done updating the information we have on the accident, and how it occurred, including information from a recently discovered eyewitness to the crash and from a recently unearthed newsreel of the race. For the first time that we've been able to find, we now have a first hand account of the accident from the scene. Brandon Reed at http://www.georgiaracinghistory.com.

Promotion idea: Sunday morning, well before anything big was happening on the New Hampshire track, owner Bruton Smith and NHMS track General Manager Jerry Gappens sat down with the ticketholders and had a little chat. Yet unlike so many other Town Meetings that have gone south in America recently, this one was full of laughter, gratitude, and hope for the future as fans' biggest concerns were addressed. http://www.frontstretch.com

Promotion idea: Terri O'Connell has written her life story, "Dangerous Curves", and is planning to revive her driving career by entering the ARCA show at Rockingham Oct. 11. She competed as J.T. Hayes before undergoing a sex change. - from Chris Economaki, NSSN

Upcoming asphalt shows:
September 25: Miller Lite 100 (SGCC) - Five Flags Speedway - Pensacola, FL
September 26: Miller Lite 100 (SGCC) - Mobile International Speedway - Irvington, AL
October 02-03: World Classic 150 (SSS) - Montgomery Motor Speedway - Montgomery, AL
October 09: Tom Thumb Stores 100 (DST) - Five Flags Speedway - Pensacola, FL
October 10: Lee Fields Memorial 100 (DST) - Mobile International Speedway - Irvington, AL
October 17-18: Alabama 200 (DST) - South Alabama Speedway - Kinston, AL
October 31 - November 01: TBD
November 13-15: World Crown 300 - Gresham Motor Sports Park - Jefferson, GA
December 02-06: 42nd Annual Snowball Derby - Five Flags Speedway - Pensacola, FL

Promotion idea: I very much liked the "one spin and you're out" rule for the heat races (at NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE FAIRGROUNDS). Everybody should do that to keep the program moving along. Trackchaser Randy Lewis, track #1,488

Updated and complete: Just before the first racing event (at Bell County, TX, Fair Expo) of the night, patrons who had purchased reserved seats ($17) were allowed down on the dirt arena surface to mingle with the competitors and get autographs or whatever. The peons, like me who had paid just $13 for a general admission ticket could only watch and long for the personal contact we would not be getting tonight from the track's competitors.
Folks, this is a how a capitalistic society works. I'm all for it. I don't want everybody getting the same reward with different amounts of effort and contribution. Those folks paid extra and they deserved the special treatment they receive at the pit party. I invested my four dollar ticket "savings" in a tall cold Bud Lite. - Trackchaser Randy Lewis, San Clemente, California 1,487 tracks
