DIXIE SPEEDWAY CELEBRATES 40th SEASON! Saturday night, at 7:30, Dixie Speedway celebrates its 40th Anniversary with a full stock car racing program and a gigantic fireworks display. It is a rare event when any racetrack operates 40 consecutive yrs under any circumstances. This weekend Dixie Speedway will become one of only a handful of tracks in the state of Georgia to do so. The Swims Family would like to invite everyone out to help celebrate this milestone in the tracks history. In a ceremony prior to the first race, the Cherokee County Historical Society will recognize Dixie Speedway as an official historical site. To compliment this honor, the State House and Senate unanimously voted May 23rd as Dixie Speedway Day in the State of Georgia. The Super Late Models, Limited Late Models, Sportsman, Econo Bomber, Super Bombers, Cruisers and Pony Stocks will all be competing in the stock car racing portion of the program. The firework display presented by Coca Cola will take place during intermission shortly after dark. Racing at 7:30 PM. Grandstand admission for adults is $15 and a $2 discount will be given when a Coca Cola bottle cap is presented at time of ticket purchase. For further information, call 770-926-5315. www.dixiepseedway.com

He's entered at Lanier. “I do have about a million laps at Lanier, I definitely will have a better chance there than [at Myrtle Beach],” commented Fowler, who was GA Asphalt Series Rookie of the Year in 2007. “I’m pretty familiar with Lanier, so hopefully we can go there and get a good showing.” Current series point leader and three time 2009 winner, Clay Rogers will be coming to Lanier National Speedway for the first time in his racing career. “We look at this track as any other track that we’ve never seen before. We’ll take it as it comes. Nine times out of ten we run fairly the same setup and just make a couple of changes. We’ve been really competitive so far this year and I don’t really expect anything different here,” commented the driver.” Lanier's Quarter-Midget track will be in action starting at 10:00 a.m. Sat., with a points race for many classes. JORDY NIPPER TAKES FATHERS DAY WIN AT COCHRAN By: Rev. Todd Shearin Jordy Nipper gave his Dad a special Fathers day gift Saturday night at Cochran speedway. Nipper came out of the box at full strength by taking the pole for the late model feature and went on to lead the entire race in dominating fashion. Nipper started beside last week’s winner Ricky Culpepper. When the green flag fell no one was able to keep pace with the familiar 1N that Nipper has carried to victory lane many times. Culpepper would hold on to finish second ahead of Stevie Jones who came home third. Eric Register returned to CMS in winning style after running in several NLMS races to claim the win in the sportsman feature. Register started on the pole and led every lap. Josh Odom finally finished second after strong battles with Monte Vaughn, Don Mullis, and Cameron Hall. Last week’s runner-up Bobby Piper came back and posted the win in the pure stock feature. Piper lost by inches last week in a photo finish to Scooter Smith. Dustin Miller took an emotional win in the cadet feature. Miller’s win was special in the fact that on Father’s Day weekend his dad Mr. Dennis Miller, who is battling cancer and is scheduled for surgery early Monday morning was on hand as always to enjoy the win. Miller made a dramatic last lap pass in his heat race to take the win and secure the pole for the feature. Will Herrington won the road warrior feature over Wesley Brown. All kids get ready for a power wheels race on July 4th. Round #2 of the battle between Ronnie Johnson and Mike Price took place Friday night at BOYD’s SPEEDWAY on the Tennessee/Georgia state-line. The CHATTANOOGA FLASH did what was expected and raced from his 4th place starting position in the 25-lap Steel-Head Late Model feature to victory, passing not only Rick Hixson but battling it out with Mike Price, with whom he recently lost a race (by mere inches), for the $1,000 payday. Johnson’s new team-mate William Thomas took the 20-lap Crate feature and seems to be enjoying his Chattanooga home-away-from-home and the Boyd’s track. Thursday Thunder at AMS: Davey Matthews paced the field to the start for the Young Lions feature. On lap two, Donald McIntosh made the pass in turn two to become the point man. Matthews battled back one lap later in the same spot to regain the lead. Matthews got loose at the start-finish line coming to lap four, allowing McIntosh to re-assume the lead. Matthews remained in striking distance to McIntosh and on lap 17 took back the position and scored his sixth Thursday Thunder win. The Roadsters feature began with Adam Gay as the pole-sitter. Gay led every circuit to claim his first Thursday Thunder win. Full report at http://www.georgiastockcarracing.com
World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘North Country 40’ at Can-Am Motorsports Park: Rick Eckert marched methodically forward from the fifth starting spot in a race that was slowed by just two caution flags during the first five laps. He grabbed the lead from a fading Steve Francis on lap 28 and never looked back on his way to a paycheck worth $7,650. 11th-starter Clint Smith, of Senoia, scored a season-best finish of fifth, and was second-fast qualifier. He was behind the wheel of a 1999-vintage GRT car that he brought out in hopes of getting himself back in rhythm. Shane Clanton, of Locust Grove, was ninth. Tony Knowles of Tyrone, Ga., was eliminated in an opening-lap tangle. World of Outlaws Late Model Series Point Standings as of June 22 – 17 A-Mains completed (rank/driver/points/deficit to leader): 1. Josh Richards 2257 (-0) 2. Darrell Lanigan 2253 (-4) 3. Following the Talladega event will be the annual "Dixie Shootout" on Saturday Night, October 10th at Dixie Speedway, paying $10,000 to win. Series officials have also added a date on Sunday, October 11th at Rome Speedway paying $10,000 to win. The event at Rome will conclude the 2009 season for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The Talladega and Dixie events will be taped by the SPEED Channel for a broadcast on a date and time to be announced in the future.
The broadcast of the LOLMDS event from 2008 at Rome (GA) Speedway will air on Thursday, June 25th again at 4:30 PM Eastern/3:30 PM Central. www.lucasdirt.com
Taking advantage of a final lap Dale McDowell flat tire, Performance Rod and Custom Fast Time driver Casey Roberts, of Toccoa, made the outside pass for his first career Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series win at Swainsboro Thursday. Roberts, who won his heat race, held off LOLMDS Point Leader Scott Bloomquist.
Many Dirt Late Model observers knew it was a matter of time before the young lion, Jake Knowles, of Tyrone, GA, would capture a major touring event. At Cleveland Speedway it happened as the 23-year-old racer fought off all the challenges of Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN. He went on to win the biggest super late model race of his career, earning $7,000 in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series 40 lap race. Knowles led all the way, but he had to hold off the Hall of Famer Bloomquist over the last 44 laps of the race. Bloomquist finished second followed by Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA; Jamie Perry of Ringgold, GA; and Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN.
Ray Cook, of Brasstown, NC, earned his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win since 2006 on Saturday Night at Fayetteville Motor Speedway. Cook led all 50 laps to earn $10,000 for the D&R Racing Team. Cook became the 17th different winner in 21 races this year and as he exited his car he received a large applause from his homestate crowd. "First off I want to thank the Good Lord for a safe race and a happy Father's Day to all the dads out there including mine."
Scott Bloomquist, of Mooresburg, TN, despite not winning a series race so far in 2009, continues to lead the points due to his consistent finishes. 2009 Championship Points Standings 1. Scott Bloomquist (Mooresburg, TN) 3350 2. Dale McDowell (Chickamauga, GA) 3015 3. Jimmy Owens (Newport, TN) 2985 4. Earl Pearson Jr. (Jacksonville, FL) 2965 5. Ray Cook (Brasstown, NC) 2940
Promotion idea: Mansfield Motorsports Park hired all of the city's laid off police officers to work at the track for the weekend ARCA event. They hope to be able to do the same thing for future track events this year until those officers are hired back – proving that a racetrack can be a good neighbor after all. (From Speed51.com)
YOUNG GUNS: Ron Hornaday Jr. won the NASCAR truck race at Milwaukee on his 51st birthday Sat.... From his high school graduation ceremony Friday night, to the winner's circle at Mansfield Motorsports Park Saturday night, 18-year-old Parker Kligerman padded his point lead with another convincing ARCA RE/MAX Series victory. Sixteen-year-old Chris Buescher nearly edged Joey Coulter at the final stripe but settled for third, a career-best finish for the Prosper, Texas rookie.
Promotion idea from Trackchaser Guy Smith (Lifetime Track Total-1,213): Corson's Speedway in NJ...Since this track is on private property, you don't hear too much about it...They charge no admission, entry fee, or payout any purse, which keeps them a non-business so the state doesn't regulate them...The coolest thing is the food, served at intermission. As they want to keep it non-business, all food is free but there is a donation box...You take what you want, give what you want, and they use the money collected to buy the food for the following week...If people eat a lot and give a lot, the food the next week will be great...If they don't collect much, then the food is just hot dogs or something... This week the food was great, with pulled pork sandwiches, french fries, cheese sticks, baked beans, cole slaw, brownies, and drinks.
Promotion idea: "We had a meeting last Saturday with all the crew and decided that this may help save our racers and fans from heat exhaustion. Summer is now upon us and with that comes some very hot, hot weather" said Monroe (LA) General Manager Rusty Marcus. "By opening later (4:00 p.m.) in the day, hopefully this will save our fans and our drivers from heat exhaustion."
From Brandon Reed: And then, of course, there’s stock car racing, which was born in the north Georgia hills around Dawsonville. NASCAR’s P.R. department would have you believe something along these lines: In the beginning, there was no stock car racing. Then, Big Bill France held his arms aloft, and said, "Let there be NASCAR." And it was. And it was good. Well, that’s just hogwash. One of the first major organized stock car races was held at Lakewood in 1938, a good ten years prior to NASCAR’s formation. Incidentally, it was Atlanta mechanic Red Vogt that named NASCAR. So, now you see what we’re up to here. We plan to tell the real stories behind Georgia’s racing history, and the effect it’s had on the racing world. We’ll do this through the use of feature stories, columns (which will be about a lot of different topics, including some non-Georgia history items) and other stories that come our way. I've finally got my website online - http://www.georgiaracinghistory.com

John "Boy" Wilkinson III, of Hueytown, AL, won Saturday night in the Southern Super Stars Memorial 100 at Huntsville Speedway. Taking the lead from Jeff Letson on the 32nd lap, Wilkinson never looked back even though he kept thinking about the final 10 laps. "I'm probably the hungriest driver out here for a win," Wilkinson said. "I've lost two races in the last 10 laps and I was thinking about that tonight." (from Ronnie White)
