JORDY NIPPER TAKES FATHERS DAY WIN AT COCHRAN By: Rev. Todd Shearin Jordy Nipper gave his Dad a special Fathers day gift Saturday night at Cochran speedway. Nipper came out of the box at full strength by taking the pole for the late model feature and went on to lead the entire race in dominating fashion. Nipper started beside last week’s winner Ricky Culpepper. When the green flag fell no one was able to keep pace with the familiar 1N that Nipper has carried to victory lane many times. Culpepper would hold on to finish second ahead of Stevie Jones who came home third. This race was clearly Nipper’s to lose as he was never challenged throughout the entire event. Eric Register returned to CMS in winning style after running in several NLMS races to claim the win in the sportsman feature. Register started on the pole and led every lap. The real action took place for the second spot as it was heavily contested the whole race. Josh Odom finally finished second after strong battles with Monte Vaughn, Don Mullis, and Cameron Hall. Register was able to set sail on every restart and easily took the win in his Fatbaby racing entry. Last week’s runner up finisher Bobby Piper came back and posted the win in the pure stock feature. Piper lost by inches last week in a photo finish to Scooter Smith. As the field came out of turn four on the initial start Smith, the pole sitter was penalized for jumping the start and was sent back a row. On the second double file start Piper, who qualified second jumped out to the lead and never looked back. Piper took the win with a comfortable margin over Eric Register who came home second. Dustin Miller took an emotional win in the cadet feature. Miller’s win was special in the fact that on Father’s day weekend his dad Mr. Dennis Miller, who is battling cancer and is scheduled for surgery early Monday morning was on hand as always to enjoy the win. Miller made a dramatic last lap pass in his heat race to take the win and secure the pole for the feature. Eleven cars were on hand and there was great racing throughout the field. One of the highlights of the race was fourth place finisher Matt Towns who made a charge through the field after staring last. Jason Lyles and Kyle Conyer both had good runs finishing second and third in that order. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Miller family, and I will try as I always do to keep our racing family posted on Mr. Miller’s progress. Will Herrington won the road warrior feature over Wesley Brown. We appreciate the dedication and hard work that these road warrior drivers and their crews display each week and we really enjoy watching you race. Thanks to all of our loyal racers, fans, and sponsors, we could not do it without you. All kids get ready for a power wheels race on July 4th. We hope to see you next week for more racing action at CMS. May God Bless You!
