The vintage race car display will feature several restored race cars, including a replica of Georgia native Jack Smith’s 1938 Ford Coupe that competed on both the Daytona Beach course and South Atlanta's Lakewood Speedway.
During intermission, the Kids’ Candy & Coin Scramble is open to all children in attendance and allows them to sprawl across the Atlanta Motor Speedway “ball field” and scramble for free coins and candy!
Tickets are just $5 for adults and $1 for children 6-11 (ages 5 and under are free). Heat races start at 6:15 p.m. and feature races start at approximately 7:50 p.m. www.atlantamotorspeedway.com

Jimmy Owens won The Dream at Eldora (OH) Speedway and $100,000 - the biggest prize in dirt LM racing. Scott Bloomquist was second.
Clint Smith, of Senoia, transferred to the last-chance B-main event through a third place in the C-Main, but remained mired deep in the field and finished 17th, missing the feature.
Shane Clanton's first visit to Eldora since his World 100 victory last September didn't go as he planned. He was running fourth in the fifth heat when a hard shot from 67-year-old Delmas Conley, of Wheelersburg, OH, sent him spinning into the wall between turns three and four on lap 11. Clanton, who had swapped paint with Conley earlier in the heat, gestured angrily at the veteran driver as he passed by the accident scene under caution. www.worldofoutlaws.com

The staff at Cochran Speedway were met with new challenges this week. Sometime on Thursday a fire broke out and destroyed the infield concession stand along with the restroom facilities. The fire also took it’s toll on the electrical system which in turn put track officials in a scrambling mode to make repairs in order for the track lighting to be restored. This was no small task and it literally took right up to race time to get it fixed delaying the start by over an hour. A special thanks to Bobby Pulsifer Sr. and all of those who worked tirelessly on this repair.
When racing started, it was veteran driver Mike Parkerson taking the win in the late model feature. Parkerson started on the pole and beat Phil Pittman to the first turn and went on to lead every lap in a dominant performance. The race was slowed two times for the caution flag and was otherwise very safe and quick. I had a chance to speak with Mike after the race and he wished to dedicate his win to his wife Leslie who was on hand to see her husbands victory. from Rev. Todd Shearin

TJ Reaid, of Acworth, capped off his dominating weekend at Watermelon Capital Speedway by winning his first ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour race, besting Paul Kelley and Parker Hammons in route to winning the Watermelon 100.
Reaid was fastest in practice on Friday and won the pole on Saturday before trading the lead back-and-forth with Kelley over the final 10 laps.
“You can’t get much better than that. It was an awesome weekend for sure,” said Reaid. “The guys that run in the ASA Southeast Tour are tough. They are some of the best drivers that I’ve raced with in the Southeast. So to win a race against those guys means a lot to me and shows the caliber of our team and how strong we are.”
Max Gresham and Jeff Choquette each spent time at the front of the field as well, but contact with other cars derailed their hopes for victory. Gresham came into the race second in the point standings, but had to settle for a 23rd-place finish. Choquette was able to hold onto a top-10 run, coming home ninth.
ASA SAT point leader Jason Hogan spent all night long working his way into the top-10 before engine problems cut his run to the front short. He held on for 14th.
Parker Hammons and Austin Hill each picked up their best career finishes, coming home third and fourth respectively. Keeton Hanks, making his first start of the season, finished fifth.
“The car was really good,” said Hammons, a former Legends car racer in his first year in a Late Model. “I was able to lead my first laps in a Late Model, which was cool."
Chase Elliott and his team had nothing but bad luck at The 'Melon. After driving through the field twice during the 100-lap race, an on-track incident sent the Aaron’s Dream Machine head-on into the outside wall and resulted in Elliott’s first Late Model finish outside the top-ten and first DNF (22nd).
They hope to get the car repaired in time to make their debut at South Alabama Speedway this weekend. If not, their next race will be the ASA SAT event at Montgomery (AL) Motor Speedway June 20. www.ChaseElliott.com
Keeton Hanks finished fifth in John Wes Townley’s Zaxby’s No. 09 Late Model.

Beau Slocumb update: http://beauslocumb.blogspot.com/
Friday, June 5, 2009
Beau got to go home (still in Houston, TX) from the hospital this afternoon! He was so glad to leave the hospital but is still getting IV antibiotics at home for a little while. He has a meeting with his doctor on Thursday for a checkup and a chest x-ray to see about the pneumonia. This whole ordeal is going to push his last round of chemo back by a couple of weeks. We're thinking it might be a lighter dose this time but still waiting to hear what Dr. Benjamin will recommend. Thanks for continuing to keep Beau in your prayers...

Dixie Speedway held the 11th Annual Bill Ingram Memorial Super Late Model Championship with a full crowd on hand and 28 Super Late Models in the pits. Tthe race held in honor of one of the most popular drivers in Dixie’s history, Bill Ingram. He lost his battle with cancer in 1999, but the memory of Bill lingers in the minds of his many fans and fellow competitors.
In qualifying, Tyrone’s Tony Knowles set fast time, with cousin Jody Knowles was just a tick of the clock slower, giving the Knowles family the front row for the feature event.
Around lap 30, Frank Ingram, son of Bill, had made his move into the top three and fought side by side with longtime veteran Mike Head, capturing the second spot at lap 30. After a brief caution for the spinning car of Dusty Chitwood, Frank took the high groove and battled for first with Tony Knowles finally taking the lead for good on lap 36. Ingram held onto the lead for the next 14 laps and took home the checkered flag and the trophy bearing his father’s name.
Following Ingram across the line: Tony Knowles, Mike Head, Luther Jenkins, Jody Knowles. Sixth through tenth went to Steve Endicott, Ricky Williams, Gary McPherson, Tracy Watson, and Dusty Chitwood.
Bobby Tucker won his first Limited Late Model feature of the season. Jerry Fowler added to his list of feature wins as he took the lead of the Crate Late Model class and lead every lap. The Super Bomber feature would see several lead changes before Chris Sizemore would grab the lead for good and win his first feature of the season. John Binger took his first win of the season in the Economy Bomber. Johnny Morrison pressured Binger but settled for second. Justin Shipley moved up from his twelfth place starting position to finished third ahead of Chuck Page and Jeff Jacobs.
In the Pony feature, Ross Baines started dead last in the twenty-two car field and came to the front for his second win of the season. The team of Russ Trantham and Shane Stancil were victorious in the Cruiser class, while Adam Ledford took the win in the Spectator races.
The next event at Dixie Speedway is Saturday night, with a full racing program and bicycle races for kids. Then on Sunday night, June 14 the action returns to Rome Speedway for a 50 lap Super Late Model feature paying $5,000 to win plus racing in Limited Late Model, Super and Econo Bomber, Cruiser, and Ponystock divisions. http://www.dixiespeedway.com

I am saddened to hear Tommy Roberts has passed away, I use to enjoy watching him race at the north Georgia tracks in the mid and late 60s maybe early 70s. from Joe Cawley, NVRA

Michael Pope, of Dublin, has entered the CRA Super Series Redbud 300 at Anderson, IN, Speedway Tues., June 16. Anderson, the tight, high-banked quarter-mile oval, has always been considered the birthplace of the American Speed Association. Now officials are celebrating ASA’s heritage by bringing back the historic Redbud 300 race, although the multiple current ASA series are not directly involved. Kyle Busch will bring his Super Late Model team to the rare midweek show. www.andersonspeedway.com

NASCAR REPORT: John Wes Townley, of Watkinsville, started 14th in the Nashville Superspeedway race, but a flat tire on lap two put him into the wall and 42nd place. The team was first, though, raising $13,000 of the $22,000 collected for the American Red Cross Nashville Chapter's tornado relief fund.
Next: Meijer 300 at Kentucky, where Townley finished fifth in an ARCA race last year. www.teamrab.com
STAT OF THE WEEK: $1,102,617. That's the money won already by Prism Motorsports this season, the "go to" example for a start and park team in Sprint Cup's top series. The team has completed just two of the 12 races it's entered this season with drivers Terry Labonte and Dave Blaney, never running more than 100 laps. - Tom Bowles www.Frontstretch.com
Former Atlantan Joey Logano dusted ARCA point leader Justin Lofton and the rest of the competition Saturday at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, PA. It was Logano's second ARCA RE/MAX Series win. 1) Logano 2) Lofton 3) Patrick Sheltra 4) Joey Coulter 5) Matt Merrell
Chase Miller, age 22, of Canton, finished 16th at Pocono, and has entered the Landmark Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep/SpeedFactory No. 4 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge Charger in the ARCA race at Michigan Friday. SPEED TV Fri. at 5:00 p.m. He ran as high as fourth at Pocono, before a blown tire cost him two laps. http://www.arcaracing.com http://www.chasemiller.net

ROGER BREWER CONTINUES HIS RECOVERY FOLLOWING ACCIDENT
At last year's Talladega race, vintage racer Roger Brewer drove the wheels off of
Tom Johnson s Limited Sportsman car #261 to win the feature race.
We saw Roger again late last year at Green Valley Speedway.
In April of this year Roger was loading the race car into a large trailer with a
heavy lift ramp that raises and lowers using a hydraulic system and
chain supports. While closing the lift ramp something in the system
failed and the ramp fell on Roger causing severe injuries to his hip, leg,
and spine. Roger was air lifted to the hospital where it was
determined that his spine injury has left Roger paralyzed from the
waist down.
Roger is now at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA which specializes in
spinal injury rehabilitation. Roger was scheduled to be discharged from
the Shepherd Center on June 5th. Let s all keep Roger in our thoughts
and wish him the best in his recovery.

A field of thirty-one Crate Late Models attempted to make the field for the $2,000 payday, but local-faithful racefans and competitors alike knew what to expect when the red n’ black # 5 racecar staged on the outside of row three for the 40-lap “A” Main feature.
“I like being able to race this close to home, and BOYD’s has always been special to me. I remember wishing the rain away on Fridays as a school-boy so I could go watch my dad (the late Joe Lee Johnson) race out here back when it was a paved track” RJ said in victory lane.
Lamar Scoggins won the Steel-Head LM feature in a photo-finish style over Rick Hixson. Corey Cresswell nabbed his first A-Hobby feature, while Michael Arp won the FWD division race.
Racing resumes in two weeks at BOYD’s SPEEDWAY (June 19th) with a Full Racing Program in all 6-classes.

Promotion idea: As a show of appreciation for Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway's competitors and fans, General Manager Larry Weakley is hosting "Larry's Pit Party" with the Ian Turner Band, a local blues group, on the quarter-mile track following the final race Saturday night. Once the track is cleared, fans will be able to access the infield.

Trackchaser Guy Smith, who's added 24 new tracks in 2009 to his total of 1,211, says the '09 National Speedway Directory lists only four Sunday tracks in the entire 13 state southeast region of AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MD, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA, and WV. Of those four, only two are truly weekly Sunday night tracks, as Rome, GA, is far from weekly, and Hemi Speedway, a 3/10 mile dirt oval in Mt. Croghan, SC, is every other week and also in the afternoon. "I thought it crazy that the only two weekly Sunday night tracks in 13 states were only a half hour apart" in KY:
Windy Hollow, a 3/8s clay track in Owensboro
Kentucky Motor Speeway, a 3/8s paved track in Whitesburg.
"I was wrong about the folly of two tracks running on Sunday evenings just a half hour apart, as both had real good crowds," Smith reports.
