Currie Pierce continues to rack up the top-three finishes
Griffin, Georgia’s Currie Pierce continues to rack up the top-three finishes in pro legends car races while anticipating what he calls the “official start to the summer season.” Pierce finished third Friday night in a 20-lap pro legends car feature at Atlanta Motor Speedway’s quarter-mile oval.
“We’re not racing too much right now, maybe once a week or so,” said Currie. “We’re going to take a little break and go fishing this week while I’m off from school before the busier schedule starts up.”
Currie is referring to the summer season, which will find the Curry’s Collision No. 16 team racing three and sometimes four nights a week.
“We’re planning on racing the Summer Shootout (at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, N.C.) every Tuesday, Thursday Thunder at Atlanta, Lanier (National Speedway, Ga.) on Saturdays and maybe some other traveling, too. It’ll be busy, but we’re looking forward to it just like we did last summer.”
The 16th annual Summer Shootout Series at Lowe’s begins June 9 while Atlanta’s Thursday Thunder gets under way the Thursday before the Shootout opener on June 4. Both are 10-race series lasting until early August that feature some of the most talented young racers in the country.
The team’s break this week won’t last for long; they’ll be back in action at Lanier this Saturday. Currie says he feels like he’ll be capable of winning the pro legends feature at the Georgia oval.
