Max Gresham stepping up to Gibbs ride in Camping World Series
Max Gresham Ready For Full 2009 Season Young Driver To Fill Joe Gibbs Racing Camping World Seat, Wheel Family-Owned Late Model This Season

GRIFFIN, GA (February 27, 2009) - Max Gresham has a full calendar in 2009 including turning 16 years old on April 30. At that age, most people are looking forward to getting their driver’s license and sliding behind the wheel of an automobile.

And while Gresham is eager to celebrate his birthday and cruise around his native Griffin, GA with a carload of friends along for the ride, he’s even more enthused about taking the wheel of a NASCAR Camping World East Series stock car fielded by Joe Gibbs Racing later this season.

"I’m really thrilled to have an opportunity to be in a Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) NASCAR Camping World car this season,” said Gresham. "It’s a new, heavier car with a more powerful engine for me, so it might take a little while to get used to it. I’m going to find out what it takes right away to get the car to handle on the track. That’s when it will be time to show off my skills."

Gresham – who will make his NASCAR Camping World debut at South Boston (VA) Speedway on May 30 - has been driving various high-powered racing vehicles since he was age 8. Multiple successes in each division have brought him to 2009 racing season and into the spotlight as one of the most promising young drivers to come along in several years.

"We’re excited to work with Max and his family," said J.D. Gibbs, President of JGR. "He is a talented young driver and we look forward to having him be a part of our Camping World East program."

"It’s important for me to have a good year this year," said Gresham. "I have an opportunity to establish myself. You want to show people how good you are. You want to show them how far you have come. This is going to be a good season for us. I’m going to be running different kinds of cars in multiple divisions. Wherever we go, we want people know we’re there to race. I want to adapt to the cars and run as good as we can and be established by the end of the season. If we can do that, I think we'll have a great year."

In addition to JGR’s Camping World initiative, Gresham will again return for a full season of Late Model Stock Car action in his family-owned Gresham Motorsports entry. This year, that schedule includes a run at the American Speed Association (ASA) Southeast Asphalt Tour championship. That schedule will include 17 events at tracks throughout the southern United States including stops at Hickory and Concord, NC; Anderson and Dillon, SC; and Cordele and Braselton, GA.

"We’re going to run for the ASA Southeast Series championship this season," stated Gresham, a sophomore high school student. "I’m going to be all about keeping the car in one piece so we have a shot at that. That’s the only way you are going to finish well and have a shot at the championship."

Gresham will round out his 2009 season slate with a number of Pro and Super Late Model events including the World Crown 300 in November at the all-new Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA and December’s Snowball Derby in Pensacola, FL.

"We used to run five races a week in the Legends and Bandolero cars, so racing once or twice a week this season doesn’t seem like much until you start running for the point’s championship like we are," said Gresham. "If you have to fixed wrecked cars, those weeks can get pretty short. We want to be on the track and racing as much as possible this year, so the whole goal will be to run up front, stay out of the wrecks, and have a great season."
