Albany 8-9-08: Roberts Takes His 2nd Win In A Row
Stacy Roberts Takes His 2nd Win In A Row
At
Albany Motor Speedway.

On a Saturday afternoon with clear blue skies, track manager Skip Pannell along with track officials set the stage for a fantastic night of racing. With 23 Late Models and 10+ in each of the other classes, the night would be just that…fantastic.

Late Models

When Late Models took the stage for qualifying, newcomer to A. M. S., Brandon Dewitt (2) would have the fastest time of 15.31 with Stacey Roberts (11) right behind with a time of 15.50. When the green flag fell for the Late Model feature, Stacey Roberts (11) would get a great jump and take the lead on the first lap. Caution would come out on lap 3 when Jay Johnson (J1) would spin out and end up facing in the wrong direction. During the caution, fans turned their attention to turn 4 where they were astounded to see the top qualifier Brandon Dewitt (2) and Earl Boyette (40) make their way into the pits. This opened up the 2nd and 3rd place spots, which J. R. Mossley (99) and Jay Carpenter (25) filled respectively. Following close in 4th was Larry Harrod (27) and 5th Cale Simons (C2). Once the green came back down, the line up would never look back. The checkered flag would fly once again for Stacey Roberts (11) in his Sunbelt Ford Rocket.

Super Street

Super Street took the track for their 15-lap feature. Jason Price (24J) with 2 wins in a row at A. M. S. in this feature took the green flag, shooting for his 3rd win. The first lap would find Jason Price (24J) and Michael Moore (42) racing side by side until Jason Price (24J) would gain the advantage on lap 2. On lap 6, Allen Flournoy (39) would not be able to hold off Rick Elmore (10) as he took the inside with Skipper Saunders (7) following closely in tow. The white flag in the air Skipper Saunders (7) would make the pass on Rick Elmore(10) on the last lap to complete the race. Jason Price (24J) would take his 3rd win in a row at Albany Motor Speedway. Michael Moore (42) finished 2nd, Skipper Saunders (7) 3rd, Rick Elmore (10) 4th and Allen Flournoy (39) 5th.

Pure Stock

Travis Stone (97) would take the green flag shooting for his first win since the reopening of A. M. S. and last weeks winner Michael Canaday(29M) following close behind. On the first lap Michael Canaday (29M) would take the lead. On lap 2, Joseph Lewis (21L) would move up three spots to 2nd place. Joseph Lewis (21L), would not stop there. On lap 6, he would go to the inside of Michael Canaday (29M) on turn 2 and race side by side down the back straight away to turn 3. Joseph Lewis (21L) would have the edge as he would take the 1st place spot and eventually take the Checkered Flag. Michael Canaday (29M) would finish 2nd, Travis Stone (97) 3rd, Bradley Frakes (51) 4th, and Wesley Horne (17) 5th.

Claimers

Claimers took the stage with 12-year-old Cody West (228) on the pole. On the first lap Artie Perry (A1) would get the jump on Cody West (228) until lap 4 when Artie Perry (A1) would spin out in turn 2 and give the 1st place spot back to the youngster Cody West (228). Cody West would then go on to win his first race at Albany Motor Speedway. Claude Stone (67) 2nd, Thomas Huffman (13) 3rd, Kline Whitley (01) 4th, and Artie Perry (A1) 5th.

Mini Stock

The last feature of the night at Albany Motor Speedway was the Mini Stock. Hank Moore (5T) in his S-10 truck would be on the pole. However, on the first lap, he would not get a good jump and fall back to 3rd. This would make the way for Kevin Burkett (13) to take the lead and Marshall Renner (5C) into the second place spot. On lap 5, Marshall Renner (5C) would pass Kevin Burkett (13) on the outside down the back straight away. Also, on lap 5, Mike Keown (6) and Keith Walls (Zx3) would make their way around last weeks winner Phil Thornhill(13) for the 3rd and 4th spot. Phil Thornhill (13) moved to 5th. At the checkered flag, Marshall Renner (5C) would not pass Tech and would receive a DQ. This would make the winner of the Mini Stock Feature Kevin Burkett (13). 2nd place would go to Mike Keown (6), 3rd Keith Walls (Zx3), 4th Jimmy Willams (30) and 5th to(3)
