Racing started in Virginia Mon., with 2007 Series Champion Chris Madden winning at Wythe Raceway and 2007 runner-up Dennis 'Rambo' Franklin second. 29 cars were there.

Gates open at 4:00! Racing at 7:00!
Directions: From I-85, Take exit 177 toward Hartwell. In Hartwell take Highway 29 South. Travel approximately 3-4 miles, turn LEFT on Clay Brown Road. Travel approximately 2-3 miles and turn RIGHT on Speedway Road. Hartwell Speedway will be on your RIGHT. www.hartwellspeedway.com www.southernnationalsseries.com

Swainsboro Raceway, located just minutes off I-16 in Swainsboro, will host to Ray Cooks Southern Nationals Friday. The event, paying $5300 to win, will feature some of the best Super Late Model drivers in the country. "We are excited about having the Southern Nationals visit us here at Swainsboro Raceway" said Steve Howell. Paul (Paul Purvis) and the staff here has made so many improvments and are making more today. We have camping spots with hook-ups available. For more information visit us at www.swainsbororaceway.com or 478.494.5005

The 9th Annual Rebell Yell is Saturday at the high-banked Screven Motor Speedway, and it’s part of the O'Reilly Southern Nationals Series, for $5,300 to win and $530 to start. It is also a double points event in all local classes: Claycutters, Moonrunners, and the Renegades. Tickets are $20.00 for Adults and kids 12 and under are $5.00. Screven Regulars have beaten the series travelers twice: in 2007 the winner was Jimmy Sharpe and in 2006 the win went to Henry Carter. The Hot Miss Rebell Yell and the drivers will keep the Southern GA Clay flying. www.screvenmotorspeedway.com.

Atlanta Motor Speedway’s summer racing series, Thursday Thunder, returns to the quarter-mile “Thunder Ring” Thursday with double feature races scheduled to make up for last week’s postponement.
Week seven’s intermission will feature the Faster Pastor race, a bomber car race to crown the fastest preacher in the area. The champion of the race will be invited to give the race invocation for the Pep Boys Auto 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, October 26.

Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags: Prior to winning last Friday’s Charter Communications Street Outlaw class, Griffin native Danny Lowry was wed earlier in the day. After his 5 p.m. nuptials, Lowry was at the track by 6:30 p.m. for practice before claiming his second-consecutive victory in his 1998 Ford Mustang.
This week’s AMS Friday Night Drags will feature backwards drag racing as competitors gear up in reverse to compete on AMS’ eighth-mile drag strip. This new, unique drag spectacle will be open to all competitors interested in testing their speed in reverse and should provide an exhilarating new exhibition for fans.
“After all, we are an entertainment facility and we always look for new ways to bring entertainment to our fans. Backwards drag racing is new this year and we think the Friday Night Drags crowd will get a kick out of it,” said Brandon Hutchison, vice president of events at AMS. “It’s a new spin an old favorite – eighth-mile drag racing, but in reverse gear.” www.atlantamotorspeedway.com

The Georgia Asphalt Series will make its second visit of 2008 to Anderson (SC) Motor Speedway Friday. AMS has been a regular stop for the GAS Series over the past few years. Randy Porter, of nearby Easley, S.C., took the win in the first visit to AMS in April.
Anderson Motor Speedway's wide straightaways and tight, tricky corners are infamous for producing close, competitive short track racing. AMS is truly a drivers track. New GAS Series points leader Ryan Sieg, of Decatur, leads the series regulars to the Palmetto State. Sieg holds a slim points lead over 2007 GAS Series Champion Russell Fleeman, of Dacula.
AMS is located conveniently off of Interstate 85 at Exit 27. Then go north on SC 81. Racing at 8PM www.andersonmotorspeedway.com

Since neighboring Hartwell is racing Thursday, and not Saturday, this week, Lavonia will be racing Saturday Night. The main event will be the Steel Head Limited Latemodels. Also racing is the Fastrak Crate Latemodels. The local Hobby, Enduro, Stock Fours, and Up Front classes will also race. Racing at 7:30pm. Lavonia plans to go back to Fridays next week.

One of the biggest crowds is going to be at Rome Sunday, for the Southern All Stars Super Late models $5000 to win + local divs. www.dixiespeedway.com

Dixie has FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT Saturday, with $10 Adult Grandstand Admission. There’s a Full Racing Program plus Bicycle Races for Kids and the KIDZ ZONE open 5 - 7:30 PM. www.dixiespeedway.com

ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour officials have removed their scheduled event at Concord Motorsport Park in North Carolina from its schedule. The event was slated for Saturday, July 26.
Currently, Jay Middleton leads Taylor Satterfield, John Bolen, Chris Fontaine and Preston Peltier in the chase for the inaugural RC Cola / MoonPie ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour championship.
Next show is Saturday, Aug. 9, at Anderson Motor Speedway in South Carolina. www.asasoutheast.com.

Matt Linder, of Hoschton, saved the best for last to take top honors in Saturday night's 25-lap American Sprint Car Series Rebel Region feature event at Dixie Speedway. Linder took advantage of lapped traffic on the final lap to deny current series points leader Kenny Adams his sixth overall ASCS feature win of the season, pocketing the $2,000 winner's share for his efforts.
Adams had taken the lead away from initial pacesetter Matt Tiffany on the fourth lap. Weathering several cautions along the way, including a red flag stoppage after nine laps for a Matt Kurtz flip, Adams appeared to be on his away to another Rebel score.
But Linder had other ideas, shooting into the lead for the win on the final lap when Adams found himself boxed in behind a pair of lapped cars. Adams settled for second, with Bryh Gohn in third. Australian shoe Stephen Lines was fourth, with Tiffany rebounding from an early scrape to round out the top five.
Linder is the son of a prominent sprint car driver, and he also won a USCS feature at Travelers Rest, SC, in June.
< "A" Feature (25 Laps): 1. 1x-Matt Linder, 2. 4a-Kenny Adams, 3. 4b-Bryn Gohn, 4. 23-Stephen Lines, 5. 19T-Matt Tiffany, 6. 4c-Tyler Godwin, 7. 29-Gavin Thomas, 8. 4m-Michael Miller, 9. 17-Samantha Taylor, 10. 67-Brian Thomas, 11. 96-Nick Defeo, 12. 27-David Adkins, 13. 6-Brad Wickham, 14. 83-Bob Auld, 15. 92-Matt Kurtz, 16. 76-Jeremy Scott, 17. 2-Red Stauffer.

Boyds 7-11-08 results: Danny Pippen #76 got his first win of 2008 in the Crate late model race. Jerry Coffman won the steelhead late model race. Tod Hernandez waxed the A-hobby field and cruised to his victory.
Fireworks happened in the B-hobby race between Lee Hogan and Michael Brooks. Both drivers are now barred for 2 weeks.

Brown County Speedway closed until further notice.
The management of Brown County Speedway (Russellville, OH, southeast of Cincinnati) has been forced to make a difficult decision today. Track promoter Richard Crawford has decided to lock the gates at BCS until further notice. "Things are really tight for everyone right now, a lot of people just can't afford to attend the races every week like they used to in the past," stated Crawford. We would like to thank everyone who has supported the track the past 40 years! Check back periodically to http://www.browncountyspeedway.us for further updates.

USA Today had a nice story about David Ragan, the Unadilla native, and his sophomore NASCAR season. His rookie season was marred by 22 accidents and spins, an average finishing position of 24.5, and only three top-10s. This year he already has three top-fives, and is only 102 piints out of the last spot in the Chase. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/motor/nascar/2008-07-09-davidragan_N.htm

Road Atlanta, the historic racing circuit in the rolling hills of North Georgia, hosts the V8 StockCar racers on Saturday. Road Atlanta has an exhilarating twelve turns packed into 2.54 miles of hilly terrain. The V8 GT-1 (Trans Am type GT cars) battle should also be entertaining with local fast guys and father and son, Bob and Zach Monette, driving their new Corvette and Camaro, challenging Matt Griffin in his winged Monte Carlo, Ed Lewis in his Corvette, Richard Bridgette in his TA type Mustang, and Clint Thomas and George Kirchner in their Monte Carlo's.
The super competitive V8 GTA group is headed by 2008 points leader Tony Amico, but Ron Fariss, Bob Davis, the Reuse Brothers, Butch Kummer, Randy Gay, Steve MaGowan, Tom Graham and others are all capable of spoiling his fun. http://www.V8stockcar.com
