Porter Takes GAS Series Win At Anderson
|
Anderson, SC- - In all forms of sports, there always seems to be an advantage when playing on your home turf. Randy Porter of nearby Easley, South Carolina, started on the outside pole to win the Georgia Asphalt Series Thomas Concrete/RS Trucking Upstate 100 Friday night at Anderson Motor Speedway. Porter powered to a win at his home track. Joey Senter of Jefferson, Georgia in the RS Trucking/Equipment Unlimited Chevy, set fast time on the 3/8 mile oval with a 15.668 second lap, winning the Sunoco/Bearden Oil Company Pole Award. Senter rolled a 4 with the dice, moving rookie T.J Reaid to the top spot. Porter jumped out to a early lead after a pile up in turn three by several of the top competitors. During the race, Porter received challenges by Anderson's own Ralph Carnes and former GAS Series Champion, Joey Senter, but Porter was able to hold on for the win.. Rounding out the top five were Fredrick Moore, Ryan Seig of Decatur, Georgia and Taylor Satterfield of Commerce, Georgia. GAS NOTES: Another great run by Five Star Racecar Bodies rookie driver T.J. Reaid of Canton, Georgia with a 6th place finish. Reaid started on the pole, but was caught up in an accident in turn 4 early in the race. Reaid was able to battle back in the Glenncast/Cherokee Flooring racer to a 6th place finish. Surprise competitor Terry Brooks, Jr of Concord, North Carolina was on hand to compete with the GAS Series regulars. "We don't travel a lot to race from our home track (Concord) but we've wanted to run with the GAS Series for the last couple years," said Brooks. "We have struggled with our set up here." Brooks' woes continued during the 100 lapper, eventually finishing 12th. There was a good contingent of South Carolina drivers on hand for the Thomas Concrete/RS Trucking Upstate 100 Friday night. Those drivers included race winner Randy Porter of Easley, seventh place finisher Tommy Stokes of Central, veteran Ralph Carnes of Anderson who finished tenth, and rookie Justin Ashley of Honea Path who made his first ever late model start and finished fourteenth. Another great run for GAS Classic competitor Fredrick Moore of Gainesville, Georgia. The two time GAS Series Champion finished third in his "Crete Motor" Martin Recreation racer.
