GAS Series/Peach State Promoter comes with credentials by: Allen Hastings GAS Series - Peach State Speedway Media Jefferson, GA - - When Georgia Asphalt Series and Peach State Speedway owner Paul Kegel began to look for a director last season, he was looking for an experienced individual to run his programs. Veteran Promoter and race driver Vince Whitmire of Jefferson came to the top of the list. Whitmire began his racing career in the early 70's in go-carts winning numerous events. In the 80's, Whitmire switched to Late Model racing where he was Rookie of the Year at Peach State Speedway (know as Georgia International Speedway then). In 1984 - 1985, Whitmire was hired to be the Promoter at Peach State Speedway. "That was a true learning experience to me", said Whitmire. "I didn't know a whole lot about promoting a track when I was hired." In 1986, Whitmire worked with Rupert Porter at Anderson Motor Speedway in Anderson, South Carolina. Whitmire has also competed with the late Bob Harmon's All-Pro Super Series (Late Models), Hooters Pro Cup, PARTS Pro Trucks, Southern All Star Super Trucks ,and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Whitmire has the best interest of the fans and the competitors in mind every time he makes a decision. His goal is to make Peach State Speedway a more "fan friendly" racetrack. Work is currently under way at the speedway. For the competitor, Whitmire is trying to get racing more affordable for the local classes with some rule changes.
